schlubsays...Just don't expect that firefighters will save your property if you can get out. Their job is to put the fire out. Sometimes the fire might not be too big but, your house will still be ruined by the water.

ReverendTedsays...Regarding those sprinklers - a common misrepresentation in film is that they all go off together, or go off when triggered by a fire alarm.
Each individual sprinkler head (typically) contains a small liquid-filled glass bulb that holds the valve shut. When that bulb breaks (by the heat of a fire, or by a foolish hotel guest attempting to hang clothes from it), the valve opens and water pours out until the water supply is turned off at a distant main. As such, each sprinkler head acts independently.
