I guess I have the same argument as I had when I said that Gay people should move out of states that are assholes and treat them badly. Just leave. Same for this guy, why would you stay in an organization that treats you like crap? Just leave. Is an Eagle Scout considered something valuable or good in society anymore? I think it's largely irrelevant. This organization is stupid and shout fuck off. Don't even bother with them except to point out how stupidly homophobic they are.

Known quite a few Eagle scouts 'n think the criteria they use at BSoA to get a scout there is pretty damn cool. But yeah, it's a private boy's club that can set criteria for membership according to their world view and through the years, have established their organization an iconic "American" institution.
Gay or not Scoutmaster, if anyone can get through your rigors and is poised to match the bar you have set AND he completes the prerequisites only to be shot-down in flames before graduation??...Well, you may have to adjust your shit before too many more "fags" make it to the gate...Because rest-assured, there's more representatives involved in your organization who remain in the closet than you have any idea of who respect the organization in spite of your policies....HELLO!!?? BOY scouts!!???

That's easier said than done when getting his Eagle award is a life's ambition for him - this is so important to him that he can't just walk away, and I can understand that completely. Also remember that it's not just himself he's fighting for, but his campaign may change the views of the scouting organisation and help empower other young gay men who find themselves in a similar situation.

Why should he quit doing something he loves because of the homophobes who want to ruin it for him? Walking away would be lazy and selfish when he stands a very good chance of changing hearts and minds as well as rules and regulations.

Life is about giving up on your dreams. Better he learns that now.

And he should quit because he's working on changing the minds of people who already don't fucking matter. Who are pathetic losers that operate an organization that is irrelevant as it is stupid. If he wants to fight them go for it, piss them off. Don't think though that even if they weren't a homophobic organization that Eagle Scout would be worth anything. It doesn't matter, the ceremony for becoming an Eagle Scout should come with a man at the end of the stage that takes you out back and shoots you in the head. It's stupid, it's worthless, and fuck off if you disagree.

No, I think that life is about trying to make things better for yourself and others; even if that doesn't work out sometimes, it's worth trying. By standing up for what he's entitled to, he's sending the message that inequality isn't acceptable, which may make things better for other people - in the Scouts and elsewhere - who are experiencing difficult situations like his. The principle matters here. And maybe your life is about giving up on your dreams, but I'm not sure the world is entirely the sack of crap that you think it is.
