Bob Dylan on booing and the crowd walking out - 1966

During Dylan's 1966 tour of England a lot of people were pissed off he had started playing electric rock & roll with The Band. The first part of the concerts on this tour were performed solo and acoustic by Dylan, while the second part was a rock&roll extravaganza. Here's some behind the scenes footage of Dylan talking about it.

Do we need more of a reminder that this guy is and always was a self-important dick?

If by being a "self-important dick" you mean going against what's already expected of you by your audience and totally redefining what is expected of rock&roll lyrics then yes...you are correct.
