Blade Runner game intro

Blade Runner is a Westwood Studios PC game loosely based on the 1982 movie of the same name. Released in 1997, the game was advertised as "the first real time adventure game". The story featured "Blade Runner" Ray McCoy searching for replicants in Los Angeles in the year 2019.

While it was generally agreed that the game's graphics and sound (music composed by Frank Klepacki) succeeded in adapting the cult film's haunting atmosphere, the designers' attempt at innovating gameplay such as simplifying the interface, adding action elements, replacing a traditional inventory with a database of clues, randomization of some events as well as multiple endings were given mixed reviews. The game performed poorly commercially, and since it coincided with the release of LucasArts' Curse of Monkey Island, another commercial flop, many deemed the adventure genre to have become a stale one, thus losing its mainstream status to FPS titles like Quake II and Half-Life.

You know, I've always wondered if I should give this game a try. The intro certainly captures the air of the Blade Runner movie, as well as the novel it stemmed from. (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep) Is the game worth it?

I got this game in a bargain bin or 9 bucks, and I can tell you it's worth that much. I sincerely liked the game, I played it through just the once but it was good. It's an atmosphere thing and for some reason you get gripped into the storyline.

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag.(show it anyway)

I've been re-reading Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep again.

As good as BladeRunner was, I wish they would do a remake of the book that's more true to the story. Interesting characters like Buster Friendly, and the idea of Mercerism are ignored. Also, they could ditch the film noir schtick.

I got the game for Christmas back when it was originally released and I can say it's probably the best adventure game I've ever played. If you can find a copy of it today (and it apparently had a DVD re-release) it's definitely worth the money. For an adventure game, it's actually quite non-linear, some aspects are randomly determined and others by your own actions, there are several different ending sequences too, I think I only got 3 of them. If you've only played it once Enzoblue, maybe you should give it another run through.

This game is perfect. It's exactly what I as a Blade Runner fan wanted. The Blade Runner partnership is extremely protective of the license and how it's used, hell a full DVD release is still being fought over, yet they fully endorsed this game. The developers really nailed it.

Too bad most people didn't notice.
