Biggest Asshole of the Year Award Goes to.....

After winning the 3000m EU championship race, Mekhissi-Benabbad slaps a giftbag out of a 14 year old mascot's hand and then pushes her. I wonder what he would have done if he'd lost?
budzossays...

This is like the video of the tennis guys having to watch some corporate idiot talk for ten minutes before they could sit down after playing four or five sets. The guy has just run 3000M as fast as he can.... the race hasn't been over for TEN SECONDS you can't let him catch his breath, maybe experience the moment and store a memory? Maybe let things proceed with some dignity? No, you have to get your branding on screen at his expense immediately. Fuck that mascot, fuck her gift basket, fuck her employers and fuck the corporate PR/marketing whores who shove "branding" and "identity" down our throats incessantly. Fuck!

Yeah... lets ignore the fact that he walked 20 yards RIGHT to her... didn't have to go anywhere near her if he didn't want to.

budzossays...

Bullshit! He's just finished a race, he's still moving forward on momentum, and she's in his lane. If he didn't want to go near her, he would have had to kill his own momentum and change direction. The onus is on the corporate worker to stay out of his way.

I'm sick of this nerfed world.

I'd bet that most people who has a serious problem with this has never really been competitive at something. Competitive people who have pushed themselves to train and perform can see how frustrating this would be from the athlete's POV.

budzossays...

Just watched it again and maybe I was confusing this with the Usain Bolt video where the girl runs up to him with flowers as he's finishing a race. On second viewing this was a little jerky.

Fuck corporate this, fuck corporate that...

Are you fucking kidding me? Athletes are sponsored by corporations, corporations buy rights to televise the sport. As depressing as it might be for some of you to learn, corporations make this shit possible.

I haven't pushed play on this video yet, but based on the thumbnail alone I think that mascot's lucky not to have gotten a face full of fist.

Does anyone else do this? Find a video you just don't want to watch because you know it'll just irritate you (religion/atheism arguments, political spinmongers, police abuse of power) but read through the comments and see if you can get the gist?

You commented. Got a message saying someone quoted you. Clicked the email link. Scrolled past the thumbnail and all comments to re-quote and argue, twice. Then realized you were commenting on the wrong video??

budzos, you cant be serious... its a 3k. its not even two miles. i ran timed two miles on a very regular basis goin through the Q. after pushups and situps to boot. the second our run is over we've got cadre with clipboards in our faces demanding our roster number and time (10:14 being my fastest time, if it matters). so either this douche dick just ran a 3k in 4 minutes and as a result is on the verge of muscle failure and lung exhaustion but yet somehow has the energy to very forcefully slap something out of the kids hand and shove him/her.

OR

he's a fucking asshole that needs to get over himself.
he's french.....so i'm leaning towards the latter

budzossays...

No, I watched it and then read some reactions and my gut reaction was to defend the athlete. Then when I came back I was a bit adamant because I had sort of mixed the events in this video with that of the Usain Bolt video (where a flower girl stands in his lane like 20 metres past the finish line, and he almost bowls her over) I'm still mostly on the side of the athlete in this video, except now I admit it was kinda jerky to take out his frustration on the mascot, but I still feel like a runner's lane belongs to him and that the mascot being so close to the finish is crass/undesirable (I realize pushing the mascot is also crass/undesirable).

People with clipboards at the finish line are way different than corporate mascots who want to hand you some branding/identity garbage.

It felt to me more like a statement/protest on his part like "I just finished the race GET THE FUCK AWAY WITH YOUR BULLSHIT." I never said he was physically exhausted to the point of insanity.

Plus, Im guessing his shirt, shorts, shoes, and possibly his underwear. And anything else he dons on his way to the run and after the run will have a big corporate logo on it. So...... yeah. Hopefully some assault charges are in his future to go along with all that ill will he's generated. I don't see how the time frame that happened in could be a misunderstanding, and if he can't deal with the situation of corporate sponsorship of the events....he should stop going.

Is the fear of being sued for shoving people or the choice of not attending things where you may be offended/irritated/whatever and not being able to shove someone?

Hell you can't even put your hands on someone like that when they are on your own property for something as simple as wearing a mascot outfit and trying to hand you something...well NORMAL people can't get away with it at least.

I'd absolutely file assault charges against him if he put his hands on me or my kid (if I had kids) like that. He wouldn't put up with me going out and shoving his teenage kids....double standards are fun.

budzossays...

No, I'm not afraid I'm going to lose control and shove someone unnecessarily. I haven't "assaulted" anyone since I was twelve.

What I'm afraid of is being in the proximity of people who would "absolutely file assault charges" for something where nobody was really hurt and the guy has already paid the price of looking like a complete asshole in front of the whole world. You would "absoultely" press the issue and try to sic the government on him. Why? Justice? Get fucked.

So he looked like an asshole in front of the world, he chose to do what he did. Him looking like an asshole doesn't negate the fact that he shoved someone, specifically a kid for approaching him and trying to hand him something who wouldn't have been on the track if they didn't have permission from the event.

He doesn't suddenly become a victim because now he looks like an asshole in front of the whole world, the victim is still the person in the mascot outfit being shoved...on camera in front of the same audience.

I think you'd feel differently if he were shoving you on camera and not just shrugging your shoulders and thinking aww shucks the poor runner man looks like an asshole. You have the expectation to not be assaulted by little known people AND well known people. Entitled to your own opinion, even if it does let grown men shove kids around. All intentional, nothing accidental happening in that video.

It's funny because you think you're empathic and I'm sympathetic with bullies when really it's the other way around.

1. Enjoy sucking down the big corporate cock
2. I never said the shover was a victim. I'm saying it's not necessary to involve the police in something so trivial. It doesn't help anything. It's an overreaction. It's not justice. It just makes you feel better, or something.
3. Suck that dick

Yes I can see you are totally not sympathetic to bullies or a bully in your own right. And show such empathy with all of your thoughtful comments.

Maybe you can regale us with your tales of how puppy kickers are just misunderstood and why nothing should be done about it because if you do......corporate *mumble mumble* rant *mumble* dick *mumble*.

the irony is youre shouting from your soapbox using internet provided by, likely, a major corporation, like cox, and likely, from a mac.

but please keep telling us how this man-baby is championing the anti corporate resistance by shoving a young girl and being an all around douche fuck
