Glad somebody else noticed that too, Gorillaman. Tasers were made for just this kind of situation, though, it's not like those batons were impressively effective.

Exactly right Gorillaman, he had a knife and wouldn't drop it. They were trying to knock it out of his hand, and loosen his grip by hitting him elsewhere on his body. The man is simply in the wrong here.

You do not fuck around with a guy holding a knife (that can apparently puncture a tire!). I recall a post about knife-fighting here (now a dead link, unfortunately) which showed the horrid damage blades can do and how hard it is to stop someone with one. The link to http://www.dogbrothers.com/ showed some other videos on the subject. View the "Knife Rumination" video and see how many stabs people can get in if they wish.

The guy here is quite possibly a little unstable, to not have complied with the police. I don't believe they were entirely unjustified in their actions.

Edit: I vote for this so that people see how seriously police will take it when someone threatens with a knife.

Honestly, those batons really didn't do a hell of a lot of good. Tasers and maybe pepper spray or mace would have been much more effective.

On rewatching this video, the audio was crap but I think I heard two gunshots in the beginning, and he was bleeding out of his legs when he collapsed before the batons really came into play. Did they shoot his legs? ...I don't get this video.
