This took place in 1992; King was actualy tasered before they started beating him. Posting this because of its historical significance.

The police said King had lunged for an officer's weapon, but that didn't get recorded, as it happened earlier in the confrontation. Read the wiki article for full details.

I wonder, though, why they didn't try a few more taser shots instead of breaking his bones (11 skull fractures!).
