InvaderSilsays...That was kind of good. I'm just a little hung up on the Vipers shooting red lasers and the Battlestar running at the end. But whatever I guess. Artistic license. Ok, I'll upvote it.
blackoutsays...In the original BSG the vipers shot lasers.

Need to throw the Enterprise in there for the ultimate "pick your universe" showdown. I sort of feel the Enterprise would get wasted though. It's not really a battleship.
InvaderSilsays...This clip seems to be me new BSG as evident with the shaky cam.
@dag: yup, the Enterprise would be toasted! *am not flaming..maybe a little BBQ*
Kruposays...Totally agreed - I was consistently disappointed while watching TNG to see the poor performance of 1701-D... I was like, "they should design a ship with minimal everything except engines, shields, and weapons."
The following fall came the Defiant.
Oh, good times.
lordnullsays...The Galactica was armed with conventional weponry and no energy sheilds, and you're saying the Enterprise would get smoked?
joedirtsays...Omg, the Enterprise has some shuttles... would the shields hold up to Galactica's two turreted main guns which can take on a Basestar in salvo mode? Or a squadron of Vipers equipted with two MEC-A6 30mm Thraxon forward-firing 'kinetic energy weapons' or eight HD-70 Lightning Javelin missiles??
The original Galactica had laser turrets and anti-ship missle which could destroy two Baseships and defensive flak which would stop any photon torpedoes. And has survived multiple nukes. Plus the size difference..
The only thing that would get smoked is the shields-up button. (Ok, this is a parody..)

Yeah the Galactica's weapons don't seem like much of an improvement on what we have now, nukes, missiles, shells etc.
Good point about the Enterprise's shields - maybe old-school nuclear would have no effect. Enterprise technology does seem a few hundred years ahead of Galactica.

That's an awesome size comparison chart JD, would make a nice poster for my den.
antsays...I want to see Cylons vs. Borgs. No assimilation allowed.
joedirtsays...The number one rule (well maybe like number 13) is that shields always get weaker when hit with laser beams. Look at StarTrek, StarWars, StarGate, Babylon, etc. So my theory is that enough giant guns would eventually bring down the shields. (Maybe they could slice up Galactica in that time)... Also, StarGate uses rail guns and they whomp the hell out of ships with shields. Technically, I guess Picard could beam out everyone on the bridge of Galactica.
The main, original site with size comparisions is http://www.merzo.net/index.html
I found it a long time ago. And trekkie only stuff is here http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/fleet-charts.htm

I know I have a memory of Spock saying that some alien ship was not a threat because they only primitive laser weapons. It's funny, you never hear atomics mentioned at all in Star Trek - or Star Wars either for that matter.
Maybe during the cold war, the collective unconscious veered away from that weapon, as too close to home.
joedirtsays...I just read an article on Christies auctionhouse selling the 1:325 scale model of TNG (think pre-CGI intro shots) for $576,000.
termalsays...Nuclear weapons were mentioned in TOS of Star Trek. I specifically recall the Romulan Commander in "Balance of Terror" dropping a nuclear warhead into fake debris and almost taking out the Enterprise.
zeth_rbsays...Ok just to show how much of a nerd I am in an episode Outrageous Okana the Enterprise-D comes up against ships armed with lasers and laughs because it won't even go through their normal deflectors and also the shields of the enterprise could protect the ship from radiation.
bareboards2says...*length=1:46
siftbotsays...The duration of this video has been updated from unknown to 1:46 - length declared by bareboards2.
