But they do self regulate, just not in our (the people) interest.

Every private citizen needs to boycott BP. Also, every government contract that BP holds must be made nullified. Also also, every industry that relies on BP for materials must renegotiate or find another supplier. Then the "Invisible Hand" can work! And then BP can get a bail-out when they go bankrupt! YAY!
See? Simple.
HugeJerksays...Unless my memory is failing me, Regulations don't usually come about just because someone is bored and feels like making some. Regulations tend to show up in response to a problem. To trust that every company in an industry will self-regulate for the reason of it being "what's best for them" is being naive. Someone will always be willing to cut a corner for the sake of higher profits.
We need better enforcement of regulations and stiffer penalties for ignoring them.
