Australian Anti-Drug Ad Campaigns

A closer look at what the Australian Government is trying to achieve with their latest $30 million anti-drug advertising campaign.

Great commercials, but the extras in that video are just stupid. Those commercials in no way encourage people to ignore anything. In fact, they seem to try and get people to do research and get the facts on what drugs can do to you.

@ MarineGunrock... so why isn't the message "Do you know what it'll do to you?"

That statement tends to actually encourage viewers to THINK and go research for themselves.

While "You don't know what it'll do to you." encourages viewers to remain ignorant, don't bother doing your own research, just take in all of the governments exaggerated commercials and don't question them.

This campaign involved an expensive taxpayer funded mail-out of a "Talk to your kids about drugs" booklet (which you can read here).

When we got it I laughed at how much it looked like a glossy catalogue almost advertising the drugs. The only thing it didn't tell you is where to buy them.

I didn't for a moment feel that those adds were pressuring me to be an automaton... On the contrary, I found myself inspired to go and find out what the possible effects of the mentioned drugs actually were. There is in fact, a downside to many drugs - which is that they are self-destructive and addictive. I don't think it's really offensive or insulting for anti-drug adds to play on that. I also can't fault the adds for having some wildly unbelievable scenarios, they all seemed pretty reasonable to me. I've had friends in some of those situations, and been in some myself. What those adds implied to me was that these people took drugs without taking the time to find out what the hell it really was - and these are the results. Peer pressure and whatever other contrivance you can think of could easily put someone naive in any of those given situations.

After looking at Erowid for the past 5 hours I now really want to try Salvia, I want to try DMT even more and it just reinforced my belief that weed should be legalized.
