Atheists Can't Think For Themselves!

EC: I prove that being a Christian requires constant thinking, while being an atheist sheep does not. This explains why atheist are the dumbest people God ever created!

I think the funniest part for me was when he mentions the 2nd law of thermodynamics. That is THE law to study when you're a Christian. It's funny how the habit Christians have for quoting specific bible verses/ignoring surrounding bible verses translates to quoting specific scientific data/ignoring surrounding scientific data.

Uh, where in this video was this ever implied?, I must have been watching a different one, because in the one I saw, he actually made a point out of the fact that there are hundreds of different Christian denominations, and that many of them where clearly not as nuts as him.

According to this video, all Christians are whackjob creationists.

He talked about Christianity as a single entity for the whole video, even refering to himself as "we Christians". He mentions that every other type of Christianity is fake, yes. But in doing that he only implies that every Christian is a fool for choosing their own particular faith over many others. I don't see how it can be understood any other way.

I'm neither religious nor an atheist, but I frequent the sift. And I must say this is just another pathetic rant from atheism. The way I was brought up, mocking someones faith in this manner is just as wrong as mocking their skin color. I think church and state should be seperated, and I admire the voices for that cause. But I also think that people should be allowed to believe whatever the hell they want without being ridiculed.

So you're against freedom of speech?

So crillep....you have been here long enough to realize that you are not going to get anything here but remedial name-calling and sophomoric rants decrying faith in anything that doesn't have legs growing out of a fishes ass or apes with with gills, eh? Welcome to the 20-something-Atheism-is-all-the-rage, circle-jerker's party.

First of all, I thought the video was pretty boring. But I wanted to ask you about your comment. Pretty much all the religions have beliefs about the nature of the universe that are mutually exclusive. At most, only one of them could be right. Furthermore, there is only one universal truth. I've certainly never seen evidence of any religion ever. Picking one at random does seem rather foolish, doesn't it? Choosing the religion of my parents or of my surroundings or my upbringing is pretty much the same as picking one at random isn't it? I mean, it has the same probability of being wrong, and I still wouldn't have seen any evidence. If someone fools himself into thinking a religion is true, just because he was brought up in it, wouldn't he be a fool? If someone devotes his entire life to servicing one religion, but then spends an eternity in another religion's hell, wouldn't he be an extreme fool?

I also disagree with the equating of religious criticism with racial criticism. I understand this is how most people think, but I have no idea why. Of course it's terrible to criticize anyone for something they've inherited from birth and can't change. That makes sense. But I can mock people that think Elvis is still alive, right? I can mock birthers and 911 truthers, right? I can even mock Scientologists and new-age hippies, right? What's so special about major religions? I honestly think that a little bit of internet mockery is a good thing. Maybe it'll cause some people to lighten up a little bit, or maybe even think about their religion enough to defend it.

Really? That seems like an odd thing to teach children since one is a choice and the other is an inherited trait.

I was brought up to recognize and learn from the poor decisions of others. If I walk out onto thin ice and fall through into freezing water then people will make fun of my choice to do so, and rightly so. I don't see Santa Clause or invisible Jesus any differently.

Even more than that, they would not just laugh at you for falling through, that would be mean, they would actively tell you to get the hell off the ice, so you wouldn't fall through. They would point out the dangers in what you're doing (the ice is thin etc) and advise you to get off. Might even poke a hole through the ice, to show you how paper thing it is.

I don't mock for the sake of mocking, but I certainly do not respect anyone's faith, when their faith does not deserve it.

Really? Do you seriously mean that? From what I've heard, people have, and do, believe some pretty fucked up shit from time to time, and sometimes, ridicule is the most effective form of criticism , sometimes, its the only option. From newspaper comics to the joker in the kings staff, time and again, Humor, sarcasm and satire have frequently been the only allowed channel to speak truth to power.

Your reasoning shows how religion and religious people wants their cake and eat it too, like a chameleon, religion keeps changing to the circumstances, sometimes it pretends to be a free choice with no strings attached, other times it is as unchanging and rigid as skin color. It tries to defend itself as freedom of speech, while telling others they cant really critize it. In fact, again as your reasoning shows, religion goes even further in its opposition to free exchange of ideas, by declaring its ideas to be "sacred", they should not only be exempt from criticism, but even from ridicule. My bullshit detector is going haywire on shit like this.
