Heh... not to be a jerk, but BillO's right. Ulrich is generally considered -- even by his own bandmates -- to be one of the lamest drummers in metal. Four years is plenty of time for a drummer to get this good.

this does appear to be more like playing the actual instrument than guitar hero. I'd wager this is a really good way to learn to play drums.

The problem with this being so close to the real instrument is that we end up comparing it to the real thing, in which case this isn't particularly impressive. The guys beating Dragonforce on high difficulty levels were astounding because you'd never seen somebody coordinating a plastic game controller like that - most of us have seen better drumming already, though.
