cybrbeastsays...I have yet to see this movie. I think it was inspired by ketamine research in a sensory deprivation tank. Ketamine like Salvia is considered a dissociative drug which, unlike mushrooms and LSD where you are usually in a warped state of reality, take you completely out of reality.
twiddlessays...Loved this movie. William Hurt rarely fails to impress me.

gwiz665says...I saw this way back when I was young and dumb... doesn't he become a monkey or something in those deprivation tanks?
rougysays...Yes, he regresses physically. It's a metaphor, of course, but his character becomes a precursor to the homosapien and kills an antelope in the zoo. His character ultimately regresses to the stuff of the universe.
An ambitious film. I still like it, but it hasn't aged well (saw it last year). All of the wild special effects seem kind of hokey now.
I believe cyberbeast is right, that it was based on the guy who figured out how to talk to dolphins and did a lot of ketamine experiments.

Sitters are always recommended for salvia, unlike other drugs like LSD or even ketamine. I think salvia belongs in its own category... maybe along with DMT.
