From YT: When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognize, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realizes that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past. As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love.

RFlaggsays...I'm not sure how I feel about the anime eyes on Alita, and I don't know the source material(s) enough to judge how close it looks to the original(s). It looks like they are aiming to be based off the manga more than the anime adaptations of the manga, which puts me even more out of my element.
antsays...*asia *commercial
siftbotsays...Adding video to channels (Asia, Commercial) - requested by ant.
ChaosEnginesays...The whole thing has that "bad cgi" vibe where everything feels weightless.
Not for me.
AeroMechanicalsays...Seems like there is a little too much impossible camera work going on. I suppose you could argue that's an artistic choice, and maybe the nature of trailers exaggerates it, but I definitely agree with the impression that it's got that video-gamy, early 2000's CGI vibe to it.
And bug eyes is definitely just creepy. The anime thing doesn't work on this side of the uncanny valley.
All the same... big-budget action, sci-fi kung-fu fighting future-cyborgs... meh, I'll see it more or less by default.

ChaosEnginesays...Funny thing is, I actually don't mind the anime eyes. They do look weird and unsettling, but I feel like that actually works in the context of the story (or at least, the little I know of it from the trailer).
I'll probably watch it on streaming if the reviews are good.

00Scud00jokingly says...Not the first movie Christoph Waltz has been in that involved in that featured disturbingly large eyes.

Coincidence? I think not!
Also, I must be the only one who thinks it's weird when people get upset because that scene of that person doing that impossible thing was not rendered realistically damnit!
entr0pysays...It raises the question of why go to the trouble of creating a killer android who looks like a short girl when she also doesn't look like a human. It's not much a disguise.
Zaibachsays...damn.. I watched that anime way way wayyyyyyy back..
00Scud00says...I'm not sure about the movie, but in the manga the world of Alita is full of cyborgs in just about any size and shape you can imagine. Sometimes it's probably a matter of fashion or identity, and sometimes it's about what you can afford. I doubt they'll do it, but I think it would be better if you saw some other cyborgs with eyes like hers, making it more like just another body or face type, and maybe it would look less weird if you saw a few others with those features.
