Al Gore's Unseen Campaign Video

sfjockosays...

quote from archibaldtuttle --
During the 2000 Presidential campaign, Al Gore, a movie fan in general and a fan of Being John Malkovich in particular, asked Spike Jonze to come down to his house for a day to follow him and his family around with a camera. Spike brought his tiny handheld video camera and came up with a portrait so real, so humanizing, and so powerful that of course Gore's advisors had to bury it.

That's a shame. But you can't blame his advisors - blame Gore, he would have made the final decision on burying it. If he was too wishy-washy to want this released, then that is a failing and a fault of Gore.

It's spilled milk, but a shame, because if more of this kind of stuff had been released there might have been hope - and we probably would not be in Iraq at the moment. sigh. spilled milk.

Oh come on, what a bunch of crap. This was not "unseen". This was all over the networks, hell, even I saw it, and I'm the sort that tunes in to about 1-2 shows on TV per week. The news media went on about what it meant that Spike Jonez was trying to humanize the mandroid for Generation XYZ, or whatever. I thought it started out promising up through the bit with the gas mask: yeah, man, you've got to go everywhere with that? Bummer.

But it soon gets tedious, except for a couple of unintentionally funny bits. Somehow the long back-and-forth between Al and Tipper with her noting repeatedly that he's just "not stiff AT ALL" stays in the final cut. Later we have to put up with the family trying to choose what to watch from a pile of videos, based on recommendations by...someone. I only recall one title being familiar to me, the movie which Al and the rest quickly agreed that they weren't into seeing.

The film? The Patriot.

Would that news media have been Fox News? The same station that many of the Bush Clan works for? Don't be a mandroid yourself and believe everything the "media" hypes.

Such a different world we would have lived in if he hadn't been side-swiped by a Bush brother in Florida.

Thanks for posting this. I never saw it...and I wish more people had. Maybe it would have shown that he was a good person - not a power-hungry liar who has ruined the Country I love.
