What does everyone mean by saying this didn't make sense. It followed an adventure story to the T.
Evil villain captures princess - check. Random enemies vanquished on quest to discover villain's sinister plot - check. Great sidekick (was that the same guy who did Bender's voice?) - check. Kid who believes in himself - check.
All they did was up the awesome and borrow a bit from The Neverending Story. It was definitely no seizure-inducing migraine like Pokemon. And it was actually funny, not cheesy!
Or perhaps people didn't mean to put it down with their WTFs, but were simply at a loss for words.
This is exactly what animation should be, a place where anything can happen at anytime.

lvegotthebends, Yes, you're right it was the same person who did the voice for Bender, also did the voice for Jake (the dog sidekick).
