97-year-old Grandpa Creates Art with MS Paint

Video Description:

"Hal Lasko, better known as Grandpa, worked as a graphic artist back when everything was done by hand. His family introduced him to the computer and Microsoft Paint long after he retired. Now, Grandpa spends ten hours a day moving pixels around his computer paintings. His work is a blend of pointillism and 8-Bit art."

He could still use it the same way if he wanted... but man, the addition of layers alone...
Ah well, yes he's amazing. When he said "it's all I do," I got jealous!

I don't know how much you all know about vision, but for him to create those with central vision loss is absolutely jaw dropping. It just goes to show that the art is in your mind, not on the paper.

What he needs is someone to set up a DeviantArt account for him. He has the skills and is comfortable with the tools of MSPaint, but what he ultimately wants is others to SEE his stuff. Such is the power of the Web.

give this man minecraft pre-Alpha and let him do this in voxel space...

just kidding.. the reason he is so good at this? his vision is blurry so he sees a smoother image you too, could put some glasses on and try this without a computer or with... interesting

Have a friend who made a few jaw-dropping star trek fight space scenes, complete with custom ships, phasers and photon torpedoes striking shields and cutting/ripping through hulls. All done in paint. I could not believe it. To this day I can't imagine how he did it. Of course he was a teen with perfect vision, so props to this guy too!

This is probably not the case. He wants to be able to "see the boxes." Rather, as a typographer he would have to have been a master of stippling. It's not so much that his "vision is blurry" any more so than your peripheral vision is blurry. It's just that he only has peripheral vision to work with. You can still see these details with enough zoom, which is what the computer affords him. I suppose he could also do it with traditional optics (e.g. a jeweler's loop), but that would probably make the actual painting part pretty awkward.
