300 - by Bioware

Oh wait no, it's the latest trailer for Bioware's Dragon Age, "Violence", designed to appeal to the non-RPG crowd.

On a personal note, this is the stuff nerdrage is made of - reaching out to the fratboy crowd because you know your original fanbase from the Baldur's Gate days is going to buy your product no matter what.

Bioware's going with a mature theme with this RPG, and considering the pressure many games see to release it in the Teen rating area to maximize sales I'm rather happy about this (a PG-13 Terminator movie..... really?).

Since the game's gonna see an M rating, that means they can market it with a mature theme too, which I think is what the marketing team's probably enjoying in indulging in just for themselves here with this video.

I didn't exactly see it as a 300'ish video, minus the arrows raining from the sky part but hey. None of us where in the marketer's heads when this was made (Id take NIN over MM too, but I'm not complaining).

I'm looking forward to this game, and happy to see the naughty bits aren't being bleached out to reach the teens who are the one's most likely to not have much old school RPG experience, and I hope this game sparks a new Bioware RPG trilogy.

I can't find this trailer on the game's website. Maybe it was a fan remix or something.

Besides, actually going to the website for the game has me hella excited. Looks like it's going to be exactly what I would expect out of a Bioware title.

Looks cool. Voicing everything has made them scale back from the "World in a box" that BG1-2 and to a lesser extent Planescape were. Plus they got more mileage from all the 2d isometric art than with 3d where you run across a couple of weeks worth of man hours in a few seconds. (Hence all the backtracking and cutnpasting in ME.) Maybe with the return to Fantasy they have worked out a way to scale up the rest of the game to their old standards.

I little bit more depth than Mass Effect and we are solid!

I've enjoyed most of Bioware's games for their writing quality, but the gameplay quality has always been very poor, IMO. You can beat the entirety of KOTOR at the hardest difficulty by merely hitting "Flurry" and "Heal" over and over. All the strategy layers of the game merely give you the illusion that there is anything deep going on.

For this reason I think Bioware is a poor video game company, but a good interactive novel company.

Anyway I was hoping Dragon Age would be the true sequel to Neverwinter Nights, but DA will apparently have no multiplayer.

Just to be picky, anyone who judges an entire game without playing it, and only by one of the many trailers, screenshots, previews and such, probably wasn't going to give it a fair shake anyways.

Just messing with you Payback.

new shit is *nsfw

I wouldn't call myself a bioware fan, persay. I've enjoyed several of their games (KOTOR, Jade Empire, Mass Effect) and been completely disinterested or disappointed in several others (Baldur's Gate, NWN).

What I can say is that this trailer does absolutely nothing to get me interested in this game.
