uhohzombiessays...*promote in honor of the late, great Mr. Clarke.
siftbotsays...Self promoting this video and sending it back into the queue for one more try; last queued Tuesday, March 18th, 2008 2:53pm PDT - promote requested by original submitter uhohzombies.
therealblankmansays...This was a fabulous movie. Perhaps not a genuine "masterpiece" on the level of its prequel, but a very worthy film.
spoco2says...He contributed greatly to this world, and thought that maybe we aren't alone, and if we aren't maybe we should play nicely rather than be aggressive. He put in a good innings at 90. Well done sir.
I actually prefer this film to its much lauded predecessor. I'm sorry, but I find the original dreadfully dull. It has some amazing bits in it, some quotable quotes, but really, in the end, I just didn't like it.
I haven't seen this one in quite some time, but looking at this now, man it owes a lot in visual style to Ridley Scott doesn't it?
schmawysays...SPOILER ALERT! VOOP VOOP VOOP!

No! If Ridley Scott directed this, there would be no speech, you wouldn't hear the planet explode and it would have taken 20 minutes for the shockwave to hit the ship (and you would have to watch the entire thing.)

Only masterpieces can give me shivers. This gives me shivers, therefore, its a masterpiece. I don't to hear your petty voice drawing lines that will never have any meaning. Space Odessy 2001 is a MASTERPIECE.
deathcowsays...Oh great, there goes one of the best planets to observe, into a new tiny star to make sure the nighttime skies never get dark enough for good deep sky observing. All these worlds are yours? Thanks bud, thats what we need some atmosphere free planets 180 times closer to a star than the Earth. I want to see the manager. If Scott had directed this, they would be wearing sexy clear plastic suits. That was awesome by the way, except for the very 80's weak graphics collapse of Jupiter.
gwiz665says...This is the year... I can't wait! *quality
siftbotsays...Boosting this quality contribution up in the Hot Listing - declared quality by gwiz665.
Paybacksays......and yet in the next book, we go and land on Europa, and take out the subsequent monolith swarm trying to blot out the sun with virus straight out of Independence Day.
...and don't get me started on the whole moved-to-pedophile-friendly-Sri-Lanka thing.
choggiesays...Clarke loved his adopted Sri Lankan home...and of course, he never buggered a pre-pubescent male..And the ones he did bugger, well, it never fucked them up-after all, you can't have a decorated and knighted citizen of the crown whose shit stinks now, can ya?
