Guitar master Steve Vai awesome solo

timefactor says...

A friend (and fellow guitarist) sent me a link to this clip without explanation and a big part of why I found it so funny is that I wasn't prepared. It's so well done that it takes a while for it to sink in that it isn't real, even if you're familiar with Steve Vai, as I am. I wanted to present it here in the same way so I didn't tag it "comedy" or "parody" or add it to any channels that would give it away.

I tried to come up with some clever way to give a hint in the description that wouldn't be too blatant but I couldn't so I left it straightforward. By the way, I believe that every word in the description is true: Steve Vai is a gifted musician. I wouldn't have thought it funny if I thought he was a hack.

I also assumed that anyone watching the clip would ultimately figure out that it was faked. Maybe I assumed too much. So for anyone watching this who hasn't figured it out yet: IT'S A FAKE! STEVE VAI DOESN'T REALLY PLAY LIKE THIS!

What should the penalty be for having an illegal abortion?

timefactor says...

I didn't think the interviewees came off as stupid. To me they came off as very caring and human. They all showed genuine concern for the mothers as well as the unborn children. I got the sense that maybe some of them had faced the same difficult choices or could at least empathize with those who had. I was impressed. And I'm strongly pro-abortion.

Trikke - Awesome blend of Bike+Scooter

An older (65-ish) guy uses one of these on the bike path where I run. He goes very slowly, not much faster than walking pace, but based on the different locations where I've seen him he must cover a lot of ground, at least three miles. It also seems like a very inefficient motion but if you're doing it for fitness (instead of transportation) then maybe you wouldn't care. It's certainly lower impact than running and less prone to cause injury than roller-blading.

Spade Cooley : King of Western Swing (1945)

@8:55 "Today the sons of the old west are still killers but of another variety. They're killing them with hot music."

Well, yeah, and their fists and boots too. Spade Cooley beat and kicked his wife to death and died in prison while serving a life sentence for her murder.

Living Giant Sunfish

I saw one once while surfing. Like phelixian I thought it was a shark at first and panicked. Then when I realized what it was I paddled closer. It was just flopping around basking in the sun. It was the size of a car and each fin was nearly as long as my board and its eye was like a dinner plate. It wasn't the least bit afraid of me and let me get within just a few feet. One of my greatest thrills.

All Along the Watchtower Cover: 12 Instruments, 1Guy

dag, it looks like he tuned it down to an open D minor (or maybe just a Dm11), then capoed at the 7th for an open A minor (or Am11). It may sound better than what you'd expect for capoing at the 7th fret because 1) he's tuned down a full tone and 2) he's playing almost exclusively open strings so it really rings.

He's also reduced the original 3 chord riff (Am-G-F-G-Am) to just an A minor drone on the guitar with little fills on the other instruments.
