Malala Yousafzai nearly leaves Jon Stewart speechless

Ydaani says...

I loved this interview and I respect her with every ounce of respect I have. We need people with hearts like this in this world. However, This only reaffirmes my belief in fighting the Taliban in whatever means it takes to protect yourself. I would want me or my wife of my mother to have a means to protect themselves without relying on faith and idealist philosophies. I hope it works for her but I have to think it would not end well if she employed the tactics she espouses. I love her though. She is wonderful and I wish her the best of luck. In this arena, and this area of the world...I feel it will take a massive upswell of individuals deciding that fighting back in a very physical and literal sense is the only answer.

Tim's Place: The World's Happiest Restaurant

Ydaani says...

OK Ok. i have to be the guy who turns this in a wrong direction. Sorry.

I have worked with these wonderful individuals who have Down Syndrome and have cherished my time with them. Yet I have to throw out these stats and wonder how people today feel about it:

"A 2002 literature review of elective abortion rates found that 91–93% of pregnancies in the United Kingdom and Europe with a diagnosis of Down syndrome were terminated. Data from the National Down Syndrome Cytogenetic Register in the United Kingdom indicates that from 1989 to 2006 the proportion of women choosing to terminate a pregnancy following prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome has remained constant at around 92%.

In the United States a number of studies have examined the abortion rate of fetuses with Down syndrome. Three studies estimated the termination rates at 95%, 98%, and 87% respectively." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Down_syndrome#Abortion_rates)

My question to you is: Should we terminate any child that has a pre-birth diagnosis of Down Syndrome? And if so, will you miss seeing stories like the above? Since we cannot cure Down Syndrome, is the answer to just terminate it before it happens...or should we encourage parents to try and bring these beautiful children into the world? Videos like these sort of hinge on that choice.

Dog reacts to a cardboard cut out of her master

Ydaani says...

Can someone explain why dogs get freaked out by cardboard cutouts? My friend had one of Boba Fett and this dog (a lab)literally jumped on the counter and sprayed liquid shit out of her butt all over the kitchen in fear. Didn't taunt her or anything. Just brought it in the house.

Does 2d freak them out more than anything else or something?

Starter Fluid Tire Inflation [MythBusters]

Ydaani says...

So, if one was to get a set of older tires from a friend and wanted to replace your (even older) tires on your own car with them, this could be used to reseat the tires? I know it's fairly inexpensive to get it done professionally at a garage but I am poor as beans and have lighter fluid and a flame. Once I got them seated, I could just reinflate them after they were re-seated and they would be fine? I'm very interested in trying this just for fun and to save a few bucks. Anyone have any precautions I may be ignoring?

What Happens When 500 People Trace the Same Line?

Ydaani says...

This doesn't seem right. Asian-themed classical music to a video about morons who cant come close to drawing a straight line that is already drawn? I have a feeling I'm gonna feel bad when I see the original and it's kids with helmets doing the drawing.

Here's a Mormon who understands true Christian morality

Ydaani says...

I also am LDS (not active but believing) but her acting like this video will threaten her temple recommend and standing in the church is a flat out joke. Harry Reid is a member of the Mormon Church and has a Temple Reccomend. Harry Frickin Reid! And this video is somehow gonna get her kicked out? Please. Also, I have no problem with her stance on Gay Marriage, I don't agree but I am fine with her opinion (you would be surprised how many members of the Mormon faith feel like her).

There is nothing wrong with the church promoting and asking members to offer support for what it espouses. I don't hate gay people (my brother is gay) but I reserve my right to stand against gay marriage if I so choose. I love illegal immigrants (the non-felon ones) and treat them as such but at the same time I will argue and ask for a more secure border. You can love the individual and disagree with the behavior.
