President Barack Obama: Charismabot 2000 v2.0

Best political ad ever-but then the opponent is weak

You got that right. So many, I had to cut most of your post.

If we need the government to help improve conditions, then it makes no sense to point the finger at the guy who signs legislation and assign him the blame for the fact that the Congress can't be bothered to pass anything for him to sign. It's that simple. If you think it makes sense, you have partisan blinders on you.

But it's clear from the tone of your post that you're not interested in the truth or actual facts. Maybe if you just call him socialist and fascist and tyrannical a few more times it will magically become true and you won't look so spectacularly misinformed.

It's really special to see a party of vote suppressors claim the President is anti-America. Go on shivving the basic principles of the republic while pretending it's the rest of us who have a problem with America.

Nah, I think that's a bit of a stretch. I can't see it ever happening, but if it did it's not like anything serious went down in this video. Thinking we'd put the guy on a list is a bit out there, considering there are no doubt millions of dads who we'd also have to put on a list.

Romney to Teacher: "I didn't ask you a question"

PostalBlowfish says...

yes, it's an "attack" ad in the sense that it doesn't cover anything except the character of the targeted candidate. however, i think the message is relevant. the candidates have differences in platform but over the last decade or so, i find i value their character more than their positions. we have a hard time getting business done in washington because we have too many people of poor character who would rather play political games than pass serious legislation.

i don't want a president or congressman who is completely disinterested in the views of others, who is hostile to discussion, or who absolutely refuses to revise his own opinions. in fact, i want to vote these assholes out regardless of their positions on issues. i want people who are willing to compromise, who understand that not everyone agrees and who will seek common ground, who are more interested in progress than preening. an ad like this tells me something about the targeted candidate, and i can appreciate that it is not just the standard vitriolic screed or godwin invocation.

of course, it didn't tell me anything i didn't already know. i would not work for mittens if he owned a business, and i would not even want to put him in charge of a bingo game.

Ted Koppel: Fox News 'Bad for America'

"I think what I'm doing is noble."

Noble would be to let others make that judgement and keep your trap shut about it.

"We couldn't do bad things and still have tons of viewers."

This fallacy proves (again) that the man is incapable of rational thought. Using the exact same argument, he would have to stop bitching about MSNBC forever, but he won't because he's a hypocrite.

Romney Gives Kudos to Hitler ?

It seems like an awful waste to write so much in service of complaining about someone like Romney being taken out of context, or having strawmen created in his image. I mean, this is the guy who has taken the President out of context and based an entire nominating convention on it. I'm in Nevada, and I get two mailers a week and they both use this fallacious "gaffe" out of context.

It's really hard to have any sympathy for him here.

But with all that being said, although I think this doesn't rate much (if any) attention, what people are saying is generally true. If you've grown up in the western world, you generally know how a reference to Hitler is going to turn out and almost everyone uses it either in a strictly historical sense, or to demonize someone else. He used it in the historical sense, but I think most of us would have had the good sense to not be compelled to point out that the great idea we're talking about came from Nazis. He practically invoked Godwin on himself.

Shit like this is why he's got his foot in his mouth to the knee. I'm glad I'm not a Republican anymore - those who aren't embarrassed by this candidate are utterly indoctrinated.

Romney Gives Kudos to Hitler ?

>> ^Jinx:Firstly he isn't giving any credit to Hitler.

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what he did do. It's not like he was saying he liked Hitler or something, but the one sentence that referenced Hitler gave him credit for liquifying coal.

Not sure why anyone cares, though. He mentioned a positive thing Hitler might have been involved in, and it stands to reason that there must have been a few positives to the guy. But when you bring him up, you're going to catch some shit (I guess) if you don't end up condemning him.

And now, in order to avoid hand-launched vegetables, I conclude with...

I wasn't even trying to make a point about any of that, really, but I could. I was just pointing out that you are judging these people by their public persona and deciding worthiness based on that. There is likely a business-influenced element at work here shaping these appearances. I'm guessing you don't actually know these people. They could be just as vacuous and self-centered (or worse) than someone like Cyrus appears to be in actual life.

I don't know Cyrus (nor do I care to), but I'm sure there are business-related pressures on her and it seems hasty to dismiss her as a "vapid whore" because she is clumsily pushing a product while applauding people who generally end up in the same role with more skill, willingness, or better preparation. None of the people we've named seem like great role models to me. I'm sure what they do is work, but it looks to me like it's mostly about being cute, being in the right place at the right time, and profiting. That's probably not fair to Page (don't know), but addressing a pair of child starlets it's probably fair. In any case, I'd rather see something deeper in a "role model."
