Big Chuck and LIl John: Self Service Gas Station

NirnRoot says...

Stuff like this still happens at New York gas stations near the New York / New Jersey border (New Jersey gas stations are "full serve" and many natives are completely clueless when they are forced to pump their own gas).

The History Of Electronic Dance Music

NirnRoot says...

I'm not sure if it is really considered "electronic dance music", but that sound of music always reminds me of the tunes I listened to in my youth: tracker tunes (.MOD, .IT, .S3M) from the likes of Purple Motion, and Skaven and FutureCrew.

TIE fighter remastered-a short anime film

NirnRoot says...

Gotta say I liked the original more; it was more understated than this remake (well, aside from its metal take on the Imperial March theme ;-). The lack of dialogue was one of its strengths, and that's lost in this "remaster".

I had no idea cats liked bread this much

NirnRoot says...

It's not the bread. A lot of plastic bags are covered with tallow (animal fat) to make them slippery and keep them from sticking together (necessary so the machines can pull them apart when they pack the bread in the factory). Cats love the taste; that's why you'll often find them licking or chewing plastic bags (side note: don't let them chew: if they swallow a tiny piece, it can lodge in their intestines and block the smooth flow of food and waste, causing bloating and potentially a rupture). This cat obviously /really/ likes the taste.

Full Throttle Remastered - Teaser Trailer

NirnRoot says...

I love that this game is getting a remake, but I can't say I like how it looks. The new graphics are too smooth; the roughness of the low-resolution graphics gave the original a warm and hand-drawn appearance. Meanwhile, this new one looks like a cheaply made Shockwave/Flash game.

30 Years After - Chernobyl 4K

NirnRoot says...

Man, so spooky. That place would be a really awesome setting for a video game. Can you imagine stalking through that wilderness, dodging mutants and bandits beneath those clear skies? I can almost hear Pripyat calling me.

(seriously, I think I recognized some scenes from the games in those videos... isn't that bit in the beginning with the cranes identical to the starting map of "Call of Pripyat"?)

OMG, you're right. I keep making that mistake; those keys are right next together. ;-)

Bengal kitty is barely Husky tolerant

NirnRoot says...

What we have here is a translation issue: a clear example of how cats and dogs simply do not understand each other's body language.

The dog starts by trying to determine where he stands in the pack hierarchy with regards to the cat, albeit with all his aggressiveness tempered by the humans standing around him and showing some favoritism (or at least protection towards) the cat. When the cat refuses to react in a predictable dog-like manner, the dog takes the cat's glowering stare to mean the cat is the alpha and goes into full submissive mode... and when that doesn't work, he whines in confusion.

Meanwhile, the cat sees all this as the stalking of a potentially hostile carnivore who is significantly larger than it, and has ears back, eyes wide and is ready to swat at its opponent if this strange creature becomes to aggressive.

It's not that cats and dogs dislike each other: they just don't speak the same language. Eventually, the housemates will probably work out a sort of patios between them (more on the part of the dog than the cat) and will come to a more comfortable understanding.

It's not that the cat doesn't want to play; he simply doesn't understand that the dog is making an invitation.

Terminator In (Number/#)s

NirnRoot says...

Not sure about the accuracy of those numbers either, seeing as there were more than 17 comics (close to 30), more than one novel (closer to 10) and arguably more than 4 movies (if you include the released-to-DVD "Salvation" machinima and the the "T2 Battle Across Time" tour/rides ;-)
