America's military action in the world has caused way more deaths that Gaddafi's supposed genocide. Not to mention the amount of death that has resulted from Western powers selling weapons. I dont believe that those actions saved more lives than they cost either.

Lets be honest to the international community it's not a matter of shrugging at genocide, it's a matter of what can we gain, what are we going lose, how much money can we gain from defence contracts, what influence can wield, what can we control etc etc. Due the recession there's been calls to lower defence budgets, cut out jobs etc, this war gives governments the excuse to not cut defence budgets and instead spend more money just bombing the crap out of places for their own gain.

Really all Gaddafi has done is defend his country against an armed rebellion, which any country should be able to do.

Also the current International situation is a bit different than it was back in the American Revolution. I don't really see it being the same as the Libiyan Conflict.

Basically if another country isn't threatening your country, you shouldn't be invading or helping civil wars unless you have significant investments there. I think un-healthy lifestyles are way more to do with exercise than what you eat, I mean obviously diet contributes to unseen damage to organs etc, and if you still eat more than you exercise off, you're going to gain weight, but generally people do hardly any exercise at all and have terrible discipline. Sitting down all day, driving to shops down the road when they can walk, preferring to just watch sports instead of participating in sports.

So really the government should ban excessive sitting down, unnecessary short distance travel and force everyone to do at least an hour of exercise a day if they want to be a good nanny-state.

I don't think his point is really that valid, I mean it's not like we developed technology just out of our brain power, we developed it over time from simple technology to complicated. So I think it's more of a matter of our increased perception, enhanced memory capabilities and our ability to communicate that set us apart so we can continue to make tools that are more and more complex. Since ultimately it's tools that originally help us explain and understand everything and not really ourselves. Also I think the major power that pushes technology is generally our tendency towards violence, greed and jealously interacted between different tribes.
