I use Fraps. It's like the mIRC of video capture. It's fairly inexpensive, and it's easy to pirate if you're so inclined. As jimnms mentioned, VirtualDub for editing/video compression. Bear in mind that, using a program like Fraps, the recorded video is uncompressed .AVI, and the filesizes are immense. Make sure your storage device is nice and spacious.

If your kid wants any sound design done for an intro sequence or anything, I'd be happy to whip something up. Example of something recent.

Psychoactive drugs shouldn't be used recreationally? Poppycock. They shouldn't be used by stupid people who don't know what they're doing, haven't prepared and aren't in a safe environment.

Cheech and Chong on Legalizing Marijuana

>> ^my15minutes:

and that's very true as well, gallow.
unfortunately, most people will not listen to someone they don't like.
no matter how accurate or compelling their arguments.
someone who's against pot is more likely to be swayed by Pat Robertson's recent startling admission. or by judges and cops who know the war on drugs is an unwinnable farce that only detracts from their ability to deal with actual crime.>> ^Gallowflak:
But Cheech and Chong? Come on. If the marijuana legalization movement is to be taken as seriously as we need it to be, we're going to need more articulate spokespeople. Preferably ones that don't so completely fit into the stereotype of the stoner.

Yeah, true enough. Damnit.

Cheech and Chong on Legalizing Marijuana

Gallowflak says...

Eeeeeehh.

There's no question that it should be legalized. There has never been, as far as I know, any coherent argument for why I should be able to drink myself to death, or to the emergency room for a stomach pump, but not use any of the perfectly healthy, safe, non-addictive and therapeutic substances. The shrooms I'm growing, for instance

And even if there were, it still wouldn't be good enough to justify drug prohibition when the changes people wish to see in society - less drug use and abuse, less drug-related gang violence, less addiction - are clearly more likely to be achieved by legalization and an intelligent, compassionate approach to rehabilitation.

But Cheech and Chong? Come on. If the marijuana legalization movement is to be taken as seriously as we need it to be, we're going to need more articulate spokespeople. Preferably ones that don't so completely fit into the stereotype of the stoner.

This isn't about the people who are all for smoking pot, this is about convincing the ones who are still opposed to it, and gathering enough popular momentum to permanently change drug policy. I don't think it's a good idea for those in opposition to see a couple of iconic potheads who can barely form a coherent sentence as faces of the movement.

Or maybe I should shut my goddamn mouth. Hands.

Richard Dawkins and Lawrence Krauss: Something from Nothing

Logic tells us that from nothing, nothing comes. You cannot get something from nothing. Therefore, the ultimate first cause of the Universe must be eternal. If it is eternal, why is it unlikely to be God?

This problem is covered in the discussion. If the answers to the questions we have about physics were amenable to common sense, physicists would not be necessary. The nature of modern physics, whether at the very small or very large scales, is so deeply alien to the minds we have, because of the environment in which they developed, that to intuitively grasp these concepts is impossible. At these extremes, things cease to be comprehensible to us.

Natural philosophy is done. Mere logic no longer has any use in answering these questions. It is a waste of everyone's time and undeserving of conversation.

You can inject God into whatever crevices of human ignorance yet remain, but it's very difficult to take that seriously.
