Alpine Coaster in Mieders, Austria (with no brakes!!)

Deadrisenmortal says...

buh, buh, buh... I wanna go NEXT!

Wow! So many questions...
How long is it distance-wise?
How fast did it get going?
What is it there for?
Why were there no other cars on the track?
How do the cars get back up to the top?

OWS 'Wayward Mom' reacts angrily to NY Post article

Deadrisenmortal says...

This really pisses me off.

Who gives a shit what this woman is doing? Did she commit a crime? If so get the authorities to deal with her. My bet is she hasn't done anything illegal otherwise that's what they would have led the story with. Instead they try and suggest that she is an immoral person with skewed priorities and not just to discredit her as a person but to discredit the movement as a whole by suggesting that this is the typical type of person who is participating in the OWS protests. No doubt in an effort to put a taint on it with the intent of warding away other people who might be considering joining in.

I am sure that the corporate sleazeballs who orchestrated this travesty of a story thought that this would be a typical conversation once people saw the moronic story about this woman...

"Hey Bob, where are you headed?"
"Well Bill I am heading to the OWS protest because those filthy banker bastards foreclosed on my house and put my family in the street."
"Oh Bob, you don't want to do that. Don't you realize that only promiscuous, child abandoning hippies are down there?"
"Wow, no I didn't! Thanks for saving me from embarrassing myself."

Idiotic.

I would bet that they would find all kinds of horrible people down there protesting if they looked for them, but to what end? Every individual has a different story but that has no bearing on the purpose of the protest. As Phreezdryd suggested, perhaps the media needs to look at the 1% and see how many of them have abandoned, abused, or cheated on their loved ones. If it is a battle of morality they want to have then put me down for 10 bucks on the OWS protesters.

The Share Experiment - To share or not to share?

Deadrisenmortal says...

The comments made so far are easily as interesting as the video itself.

There are those that feel the video is a positive confirmation of our innate goodness as a species.

There are those that take the video as a light piece of inspiring fluff that is meant to make you think positively about sharing.

There are those that discount the video as being unscientific and say that its result could be easily controlled and dismiss it saying that it proves nothing.

There are those that suggest that the video represents a contrast to the current socio-political state of the world where so few have so much and so many have so little.

I wonder if the people who created the video ever contemplated its potential impact in such a diverse fashion?

Penn Jillete on raising an atheist family

Deadrisenmortal says...

So let me get this straight...

"God I know is loving..He takes care of me and even the little things in my life. He is powerful..He controls everything that is going on." & "He is just, righteous, true and pure. He is good..He does no evil."

but...

"He forgives me when I screw up, which is often."

If your god takes care of you right down to the little things why does he allow you to screw up? If he is so good and pure and powerful then why does he allow so many people who believe in him to suffer and die? Do you think that the tornadoes, floods, and hurricanes in the US only kill non-believers? "Well, god works in mysterious ways" ... feh. There is nothing mysterious about a tornado ripping through a trailer park in tornado alley. (Other than why the hell those idiots keep building trailer parks in tornado alley.)

There are so many holes in your swiss cheese of a fairy story that you are constantly defending your viewpoint. You talk about your effort to try and "save the souls of the non-believers" but in fact I think that this effort you put forward is your attempt to re-affirm your personal beliefs.

The God I know is loving..He takes care of me and even the little things in my life. He is powerful..He controls everything that is going on. He is merciful..He forgives me when I screw up, which is often. He is just, righteous, true and pure. He is good..He does no evil. He is awesome..He created this beautiful Universe and all the intricate things in it. He changed my life..transformed my character..and leads me through every trial. He is wise..His ways lead to life. He is my Lord and my King. He is worthy of all honor and praise. He is the universal Savior, the one who takes away the sin of the world. He is eternal, he is omnipresent, He is Almighty God.

Penn Jillete on raising an atheist family

Deadrisenmortal says...

So, um, what were these lies that have been told to you all your life? That the earth is round and over 4 billion years old? That the sun is the center of the solar system? That there is undeniable evidence that suggests that man evolved from primates?

Now that you have found god and are visiting the church regularly (and likely investing a good amount of your accumulated agnostic secular materialistic wealth into the collection plate) you believe that those people are telling you the truth? Instead of providing evidence that supports their claims you are told to believe based upon faith? The church is asking you for your time, your money, your obedience, all in exchange for some supposed heavenly glory that you will never be certain that you will receive.

Tell me, what has the scientific community ever asked of you in return for the knowledge that they are offering?

Look around you, every modern convenience that you currently enjoy was made possible by science and engineering. Science drives our species forward, religion fights to hold us back while struggling to stay relevant.

Believe what you want, just keep it to your self. I don't need what you are selling.

>> ^shinyblurry:

My Dad is an atheist and my mom an agnostistic/near-theist..I was raised with no religion. Was an agnostic secular materialist by default. I received revelation of Gods existence a few years back. Although I am sad I was lied to all my life and believed the lies, I marvel at the fake world we live in, and am amazed more people don't see right through it..but then remember I used to be one of those people. Although I was never so arrogant as to rule out Gods existence, I have empathy for people who can't see it.

Rolemodel Cop Finds Gun, Remains Calm

Deadrisenmortal says...

National Justice Institute
In 2005, 11,346 persons were killed by firearm violence and 477,040 persons were victims of a crime committed with a firearm. Most murders in the United States are committed with firearms, especially handguns. In 2006, firearms were used in 68 percent of murders, 42 percent of robbery offenses and 22 percent of aggravated assaults nationwide.

The statistics show that firearms are the murder and suicide implement of choice in the United States as firearms are used in 2 out of every 3 homicides and half of all suicides.

I am a Canadian who owns guns and I do NOT support the federal gun registry as it does nothing to prevent crime or protect citizens.
However I do support the proper licensing, secure storage, and transport of firearms. I believe that some level of gun control is required but the majority of issues can be addressed through proper firearm education.

Not sure why people are so incensed by people carrying guns.

No? No idea? How about fear of death? I live in Canada and if me or anyone I knew saw a civilian walking around with a gun we would call the police immediately. Doesn't really matter if they have no 'ill intent', they're walking around with a weapon that can kill someone in the blink of an eye. There's no use for a gun other than killing. Like someone said earlier, this isn't the wild west, have some common sense and at the very least it should be concealed with the proper permits.

I don't think this guy lives in Canada. He lives in the US and in a place where open carry is legal. Some of us don't give in to fear. Sure a gun can kill someone in a blink of an eye, but so can a car or a steak knife. Should we ban roads and steak restaurants?

Truth About Transitional Species Fossils

Deadrisenmortal says...

Let's just pretend for a moment that you are correct and there is absolutely no evidence to support evolution. This imagined lack of evidence can in no way point to any conclusion other than the disproving of the evolutionary theory. The elimination of this theory does not by default make the theory of creationism a valid replacement.

Can you elaborate on your scientific evidence that suggests that the world was created in 6 days? And please do not say "because it is written in the bible". If you do I am afraid I am going to have to hold you and "the word of god" accountable for all of the Geocentric universe supporters that exist. Do you believe that the earth is the unmovable center of the universe? If not, why?

>> ^shinyblurry:

No, I believe the bible is the inspired word of God and that He created the world in 6 days. I also believe that science supports that account of creation and disputes the theory of evolution. I could give you literally hundreds of examples as to why this is the case.

Truth About Transitional Species Fossils

Deadrisenmortal says...

All of this input from Shiny smacks of a kind of sad desperation, where it is not actually the rest of us that he/she is trying to convince, but is instead in fact trying to quell the remnants of his/her own critical thinking through the constant reinforcement of his/her theistic bias.

Science is all about using doubt and skepticism to challenge theories that are developed through the interpretation of available facts while religion is about the certainty of unknowable things that are to be believed regardless of the available facts.

There is no way to debate to a conclusion with someone who refuses to imagine even for a second that their argument may be wrong.

Sarah Palin: Paul Revere Warned the British

Deadrisenmortal says...

I don't necessarily agree with all the points in your message but I can most certainly appreciate the way that they were communicated. An opinion can be much better appreciated when it is not preceded by insults and hostility.

I am taking you off my troll watch list. ;^)

>> ^quantumushroom:

Man-o-man Quantum, you seem to have some serious anger issues.
Anyone who values the exceptional, free and prosperous America is angry with the Obamateur and his merry band of tax cheats and kleptocrats. Not to say the Rs are much better, but they are, in fact, better.
The sad thing is that some of what you say is very true but because of your deep seated hatred for anything left of the extreme right you undermine your own argument against any leftist bias.
Remember that I don't claim objectivity like the leftmedia (actually even that isn't true any more, they abandoned what little journalistic cred they had by joining Obama's 2008 campaign). I have my opinions but there also the numbers, such as unemployment and debt, which no one can fudge for very long.

What really intrigues me is your comment; "Palin has a far better grasp on what it means to be an American than a bitter leftist...". As you appear to be a bitter right wing extremist, I am curious to know what you think it means to be an American? What American principals does Palin exemplify that you find so endearing as to make you believe her to be a good presidential candidate?

You may be surprised to discover I don't necessarily think Palin is ready to be prez (the night is young) but the election of His Earness proves that a sad slight-majority of Americans are willing to overlook a lack of experience and substance, another measure by which BHO fails. Palin governed a whole state, whereas Obama was a junior senator who voted "present" most of the time.

What American principals does Palin exemplify that you find so endearing as to make you believe her to be a good presidential candidate?

Sarah believes in America, Barack doesn't. Sarah celebrates the good, Barack believes that America is the greatest threat to the world and should be "reigned in". Sarah may not know the birthdays of all the Founding Fathers, but is aligned with those principles more than Barack, who believes that the FF "didn't go far enough" in redistributing wealth, which was never their aim.
Sarah is a leader, capable of galvanizing the American People, just like Barack. It's why the left hates her. Even Howard 'Scream' Dean just warned that she could beat His Earness in '12.
IMO she can't screw things up any more than Barry.

Anthony Weiner - THE PICTURE WAS OF ME & I SENT IT

Deadrisenmortal says...

I have had tons of respect for Weiner, minus a few of his childish antics. But now...

1. How can sending someone a groin shot over the web be guaranteed as consensual? What if it turned out that what he thought was a 21 year old was actually a 13 year old girl pretending to be 21? If he was comfortable enough about his anonymity how could he know who he was dealing with?

2. Really? You are giving a man who has railed against dishonesty in politics and the media a pass on a knee jerk lie? Remember the true measure of a person is not in times of comfort but in times of stress. He almost might have been able to save himself if his first reaction was the truth.

3. Everything that a political figure does, professionally or personally, has something to do with their politics.

4. So do I.

5. Agreed, but this is not about his marital issues. His marital issues are as a result of his actions, they are not necessarily the cause of them.

6. Agreed. This alone invalidates him in his position and makes him hardly supportable now.

7. See numbers 3 and 6.

8. For me the issue is not the original screw up but instead it is the lie that immediately followed that is the problem. If his default reaction is to lie like a 5 year old to protect himself what does that say about him? Did he lie out of panic or did he actually for a moment think that he could fool everyone and get away with it? It is hard to trust a person who tells the truth only when there is no other option.

How can his antics be taken seriously now? He will be yoked with this for the rest of his political career.

>> ^peggedbea:

1. i don't give a shit what he does in his private life, as long as it is consensual.
2. i can totally see accidentally sending something embarrassing to the wrong place and then freaking out about it and making up some lie to cover it up, i'm pretty sure i've done it.
3. this has nothing to do with his politics
4. i like his politics
5. his marital issues are not my business
6. disappointing that he put himself in a position to be discredited for every valid thing he says from now on
7. stupid that political opponents and news outlets will tell america that who he jerks off with somehow discredits his work
8. i really really really don't care who beats off/screws whom as long as it is consensual. i wish the news would regain some class and keep peoples private lives private... even though he technically outed himself... still can we just do what my friends would do if i accidentally posted a dirty picture to my facebook and deleted it immediately and politely pretend it never ever happened???

Sarah Palin: Paul Revere Warned the British

Deadrisenmortal says...

Nowhere does it say here that Paul Revere warned the British of anything.
Paul Revere's House

As a matter of fact it very clearly states in his personal letters and deposition of the midnight ride that he did everything that he could to avoid the British.
Paul Revere's Letters
Apparently there were lots of threats by the British soldiers to "blow his brains out". (Read it, you'll see. ;^)

I am not sure how she is making the connection between the British and the right to bear arms. The Declaration of Independence says nothing about bearing arms. It does say lots about the abuses of the American colonists by the British Royalty and about the elimination of taxation without representation. I thought that it was the Constitution that was adopted once independence was achieved that gave the right to bear arms.

Midnight Ride - 1775
Declaration of Independence - 1776
American Revolutionary War ends - 1783
United States Constitution adopted - 1787
Bill of Rights - 1789
2nd Amendment adopted - 1791

This tells me that the right to keep and bear arms was not ratified until 16 years after the midnight ride and was likely not a burning issue at the time.

As I am not a scholar of American history I may be mistaken and would happily defer to anyone who has the right of it.
