No One Likes M. Night Shyamalan

I had a very similar experience to the beginning of this video. I saw the trailer for Devil for the first time when in a crowded theater just before Scott Pilgrim. The entire crowd was silent during the trailer until "From the mind of M. Night Shyamalan" came across the screen. It was then the ENTIRE crowd groaned loudly, and then started to talk through the rest of the trailer, obviously losing all interest. It was pretty funny.

True Blood - We are NOT your equals!

Yeah, the very end of the post you referenced I came to the realization that it was Meyers who took from the Stackhouse novels. Pretty crazy how she blatantly took so much material and exploded with it.
>> ^Xaielao:

Actually, the plot is EXACTLY like Twilight. The first season, anyway (I stopped watching after that). Let's see... Human girl meets vampire, they fall in love, which is completely uncommon for a vampire to do. One of them has the power to read thoughts (FOR NO REASON AT ALL), but for some reason can't read their love interest's thoughts (FOR NO REASON AT ALL). He then spends the entire time protecting her from other more violent vampires. Hmmm... That all sounds very familiar.

Since the story is taken strait from a novel that was written about 7 years before the first Twilight novel, you must realize that it is Twilight that ripped off The Sookie Stackhouse Series, not vice versa. Whether the movie came out before the TV show began is irrelevant.

Uh Oh!

Some spoiler content in this:
I understand that in the end, you're praising the show and the wonderful character that is Walter Bishop, but I've got to question- Your one gripe about a sci-fi show about an alternate universe waging war on us is that it's not very realistic? I just had to ask. Other than that, I couldn't agree more. Nolan is a wonderful actor, and if Fringe was a more popular program, they'd be throwing Emmys his way for his performance. He's had me to the point of tears in some scenes.
>> ^mgittle:

Despite all the terrible bunk "science" stuff on Fringe, it's a great show simply because of Walter's interactions with all the other characters.
I'm not usually one to put aside terribly unrealistic stuff, but for this show I gladly make an exception.

While the above comments are true, I think it's an important message to those who have forgotten what's really important in life. Sometimes you don't have to be totally original to be refreshing. Sometimes a message just needs to be a healthy reminder...

NWA: Paris Hilton arrested for cocaine possession in Vegas

Abel_Prisc says...

What awful luck.
I hate this so much. She was JUST suspected of drug possession, and then an innocent handbag mix-up puts drugs right back into her hands. I'll bet she was trying desperately to keep away from the stuff, too, but terrible luck puts her in even more hot water.
I hope this doesn't have a negative impact on this classy, beautiful woman's career. She's worked too hard and deserves it way too much.

*SPOILER WARNING*

Human girl meets vampire, they fall in love, which is completely uncommon for a vampire to do. One of them has the power to read thoughts (FOR NO REASON AT ALL), but for some reason can't read their love interest's thoughts (FOR NO REASON AT ALL). He then spends the entire time protecting her from other more violent vampires. Hmmm... That all sounds very familiar. Then! Vampire has to go away for a while, asks a rival mystical being to protect her, the girl is heartbroken, and the other guy is there to comfort her and she starts to see him as a love interest as well. Hmmm... That also sounds painfully familiar! Both stories even share exact same lines of dialogue.
I understand that this is a very very broad overview, but I could honestly go on and on about the blatant similarities between the two popular vampire stories. One has a TON of filler side-stories about politics and other character development. But then again, True Blood also runs at almost 13 hours of airtime a season, so it has a lot more time to kill.

I'm sure as the True Blood series goes on, it probably gets more original, but the main plots of both stories are pretty much the exact same (again, speaking only for the first season of True Blood). I don't know which book was written first, but somebody ripped somebody off.

EDIT: Reading a comment above, the True Blood books came first. Okay, so Meyers stole from True Blood, then.

10-Year Old Releases Demon of 55-Year Old Opera Singer

Abel_Prisc says...

Wraith, please allow me to sum up your point. So what you're saying is, and correct me if I'm wrong, that this little 10 year old girl sings like crap when compared to adult, seasoned opera stars? That's your point? Really? .....Really?

This reminds me of this one time I was at a minor league hockey game. This small child, in one swift motion, got through all 5 of the opposing team's players and then pulled off such an amazing goal that it made the goalie dumbfounded. The entire crowd of parents erupted into cheering and praise for this kid, since he exemplified such a skill level that was far and beyond what he should have at his age. While I was slightly impressed, I made it a point to tell the parents cheering in the crowd that the kid's play is crap compared to Wayne Gretzky.

So I guess I can relate to how you feel.

This is how the History Channel died

The point you just stated is why I love this community SO much.>> ^Lithic:

So a comedy clip about the civil war and dinosaurs just turned into a historical debate about the merits and design philosophy of WW2 tanks. Yes, that just happened. Only on freaking Videosift, I swear to the Flying Spagetti Monster.
I'll be over there with the popcorn. -->

Basil Marceaux explains HIS kind of pollitics

Abel_Prisc says...

The funniest part of this, to me, is that he probably thinks he did a good job. He probably left the stage that night, gave himself a pat on the back, said "Basil Marceaux.com, you're the best! All of those people cheered for you!" and slept soundly.

Dexter Season 5 Trailer

Abel_Prisc says...

Xax, I've said that about every season ever since Season 2 concluded, and the writers haven't let me down yet. Every year I think "This is the year where my favorite show finally starts to sink", and I've loved every season more than the season before it. So I'm not too worried. They've got some of the best writers out there.
