Obama at AIPAC, his hawkish Zionist declarations for Israel

13150 says...

I'm being uncharacteristically optimistic here - given that the last AIPAC conference was in June, his stance may have changed. It's entirely possible the stance may NOT have changed, but we'll know in a few days.

America has traditionally been an ally of Israel since the founding of the Israeli state, and I don't find it at all surprising that Obama would call for keeping Jerusalem as the undivided capitol of Israel (to do anything else would be to invite Israel to use all those weapons we gave them against us, honestly).

This war over worthless real estate needs to stop, but I don't know how anyone can convince either side to give up what amounts to one of their holiest sites short of a fascist abolition of all religious states. That solution would be as bad as or worse than the problem, so we'll have to see what happens.

Jon Snow interviews/owns Israeli Minister

Oh my. The fact that this is a satellite interview (complete with communication delays) serves to make this look even worse. Honestly, I wish that news outlets WOULD edit these interviews to cut out the satellite pauses. This guy deserves to look like an idiot, but he looks like enough of one without the satellite pauses making it look like he's desperately trying to think up an answer after each statement by Jon Snow.

^Jdbates: Since I can somewhat understand his mindset, I feel I should explain. He's not trying to channel fascists and communists; he's saying, "Look what these people did with intense dedication to evil. Imagine what we could do with intense dedication to good."

Still comes off as crazy and brain-washy, but that's the idea behind it.

Rock And Roll Is A Lie

13150 says...

To further expand on what I was saying, there were popular Christian "rock" groups (e.g., Beatles knock-offs) as early as the late 60s, and once it started, it generally didn't take long for Christian artists to begin emulating the popular music of the day whenever a new variation of rock came along (See: Larry Norman). Typically, they had fans who realized they were trying to use modern music to preach Christianity, and they had opponents who believed the devil was in their music.

Growing up as a fundamentalist Christian, I got to witness this bizarre schism first-hand as I listened to speaker after speaker tell me that the "backbeat" in rock and roll music was pulled from African witchery, and it was this beat that made the music evil - not necessarily the lyrics or the singers. If you look hard enough, you can still find old webpages devoted to exposing the evils of "Christian Rock." I'm so happy I grew up like I did, because it made it so much easier for me to forget about Christianity

This must have been produced prior to the influx of Christian rock bands, that have become so popular with the young people.

Actually, given the bands they're citing, this was right in the heyday of Christian Rock. This was back when Petra was still rock (instead of pop), Stryper was going strong, and parents insisted on taking their kids to seminar after seminar about how even Christian Rock was the devil's music.

Rick Warren Urges Followers To Emulate Hitler Youth

13150 says...

Having in the past been a Christian, these things don't scare me very much. It worries me that people are so willing to be lemmings, but people like Rick Warren aren't militant (which is the major difference between them and a Hitler or Lenin). At worst, a group of people as "devoted to Jesus as the Hitler Youth were to Hitler" is going to make shopping less convenient as they try to pass out tracts and witness.

Of course, the saddest thing is that they could probably win an amazing number of converts if they'd actually follow the teachings of their namesake, but that would require actually working, instead of holding up a "me-too" card along with a stadium-full of fellow lemmings.
