Just remember, by making a broad statment about ALL Kentuckians, you are engaging in the same prejudiced slandering that you are bashing.

That rather goes without saying. If you're referring to me, you'll hopefully see I made no statements about all Kentuckians; just the ones willfully flaunting their xenophobia and ethnocentrism in this clip.

The level of ignorance these people display is truly frightening. I'd really like to know what the "websites" and "news sources" are that feed them their opinions, but I guess I can make a pretty good guess.

We're all given roughly the same mental equipment to make sense of the world with; it's an insult towards the whole species to neglect to use it.

If you think that's bad enough, wait till they get to the oil.

It's an extremely violent movie, which I usually dislike, but it's so over the top that it's hard to take seriously - even though it's always presented seriously. I really thought the movie had some interesting things to say amid the violence, and I don't think it could've been said without it.

As for Oldboy, I never got to it, but I saw the first part of the trilogy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, and it seemed rather pointless to me. The only thing I got out of it was the way it played with my (and I assume most people's) tendency to pick sides in conflicts, but I don't feel the violence necessarily added to the message. I guess I should give Oldboy a try, though.

But then again, I find life depressing enough without constantly inundating myself with this stuff...

This reminds me that I still haven't seen the Final Cut that came out last year; I should rectify that soon. I very rarely watch a movie more than once, but I've seen this one well over a dozen times and I'll never get tired of it.

No, it's all as simple as this: So long as there are people that are willing to attack us, we need a way of defending ourselves. So long as we have the technology to defend ourselves better than we could yesterday, we should do it.

Defending? Think about the last hundred years and the countless wars the US has engaged in during that time. Would you say that the country comes off as the defender rather than the aggressor? Wars are always sold to the people on the grounds that they "are necessary" or else this or that malign force will threathen their way of life, but that is propaganda, not reality.

Fear is the most primaeval instinct and as such cannot be reasoned with, which is why it's such a convenient tool for leaders.

As an avid gamer I hate to say this, but I won't be surprised if some kids will try to emulate this with tragic consequences.

I mean, just watching that makes me want to go run around on rooftops, and I'm an old fart with severe vertigo.
