What we have here ...
... is pretty cool. I'm not one to toot my own horn, but I'm happy to toot yours.
We've been working through the details on the upcoming VideoSift 5 upgrade - and examining all of the little bits of community functionality - has made me realise what a unique place this is. This may seem a bit like I'm blowing wind up your proverbial - but indulge me:
A vast library of video content - with virtually no dupes
A self-policing community with almost no spam
We fix dead videos!
99.9% interesting content. (Try a random post - I dare anyone to tell me they landed on a crap video.)
Generally cordial, engaged intelligent interactions with each other
And finally, an elite, yet small group of curators who are driving the viewing habits of millions and millions of people on the net.
That last point is kind of an interesting one. You'll know that VideoSift itself gets a couple of million page views a month- but the larger impact is made by bloggers, Tweeters, journalists and others who are silently slurping up VideoSift content for reuse. It's harder to measure that kind of impact, but it's definitely large. And as much as we complain about Reddit reposts here - the reverse is also, definitely true. (though it's largely undetectable - as most people just grab the embed).
We haven't done much naval-gazing lately, but I just wanted it noted for the record - before we move towards the next phase of VideoSift - that what we have all built together here - is pretty damn cool - and thanks everyone for making it my favourite place on the net.
