News / World Affairs should really be rolled into one. Since this is a global site and usually events in one place have worldwide implications.

Yes, the sift started out with some admin created channels (i.e. cute, music, politics) why not create more in a time of need?

Election debates and inauguration of the US president, Halloween and Christmas were given a focus, why not the economic crisis?

I agree worldaffairs is not working well as a channel: politics, eco, news, waronterror already cover them mostly.

I think there's room for community approved channels too. Economy sounds like one that needs to be there, but not one anyone wants to do themselves.

How many channels is a 250 diamond allowed to run? I know 4 was the limit for a while, but I don't see an option.

News and World Affiars are entirely different beasts.

If someone breaks into a convenience store in Los Angeles and there's a funny news clip about it, it most certainly isn't World Affairs. And not all "world affairs" are on the news.

The Davos summit is a world affair, but none of the clips are specifically from a news broadcast channel.

The Election08 channel still serves a purpose, as Obama has yet to fill his cabinet, and there are a few tails of issues that are still permeating from the last Election. I'm sure within a few months tho, that channel will be pointless.

I'm flip-flopping on this issue. I've argued before that we don't need an econ channel because it's always part of politics, and I've yet to see a video about economics that wasn't also trying to make a political point about what government should be doing with/about the economy.

Unfortunately, it looks like it's going to be about like election08 -- very important, very loudly argued over, and won't be settled until everyone's beyond sick of it.

We need an economy channel.

Oh, and as creator of the News channel, volumptuous is 100% right about the idea of merging news and world affairs. Many things are news but not worldaffairs, and many things are worldaffairs that the news refuses to cover.

Not knowing this, I was going to propose that crownies should totally have the ability to create another channel - here's a good example of why.

Great. I make a sift talk post wanting about help with the Money & Economics playlist I started, and THEN see the post about an economics channel.

The sift does need a channel about the subject.

As David Suzuki says, economy is simply about taking care of one's home. I would be thrilled to see more videos about steady state economics in the eco channel.

That said, a separate economics channel would be useful. There are hundreds of videos that would find a home.

Eco is called Sustainability, can't we just rename it then? I mean Eco never even fit as a good descriptor for Sustainability issues.

The problem with changing "eco.videosift.com" to "sustainability.videosift.com" is not a good one. We do not like to break links and create 404s like that.

If we don't change it, that means we would need * sustainability as an invocation going to "eco.videosift.com" while * economy directing to economy.videosift.com.

It's a bit messy. Money.videosift.com would work.

at one point I thought I'd create a *money channel whenever I finally reached 250, if it hadn't been done already, but I have a much much neater idea for a channel now, one which is actually weird to not see up there in the channels list yet, too - even though I'm sort of studying economics and business. But yeah, I guess this one should be created and I'm also all for giving it to Farhad, at least for the time being if he doesn't want to moderate it forever.
