Upcoming Sift Interview: Pomplamoose
We're launching a series of interviews with artists and video creators who are known favorites to Sifters.
I'm really happy to announce that our first interview will be with Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn from the musical duo Pomplamoose.
If you have any questions that you would like me to ask Nataly or Jack- please post them here - and while you're at it grab their album on iTunes. I picked it up a few days ago and am liking it very much.
Also, we're looking for ideas for other people to interview - doesn't have to be music related. I've asked the "The Website is Down" people- I'd love to hear how they put their stuff together.
Update: The interview is up here!

Awesome. I look forward to your interviews. Obviously Jake Shimabukuro needs to be tracked down at some point.
I always wondered how they choose the songs they cover! Such a wide range of songs from La Vie en Rose to September.
great idea, dag. and I love Pomplamoose, too
Does this mean I can finally ask a gassy cat some questions?
As for the Pomplamoose interview, that should be good.. I'd like to know how they met, first and foremost.
It seems like they've got some unusual instruments. I'd be interested to know more about their collection (even the normal stuff). Also, what software do they use for audio and video production and editing?
An interview with Yahtzee from Zero Punctuation would be a no-brainer.
I haven't heard of them but isn't it odd to pose with cereal? I bet they're kooky.
Looks like müsli/muesli, what with the fruit and all. We could ask them just to be sure, if for nothing else then to finally answer the age old question on which kind of breakfast is best suited for a career in music!

But then it would HAVE to be Zifnab that conducted it...

This might be controversial but isn't muesli = cereal?
I'd like to know what music inspires them. Knowing this really helps shape the listener in hearing their music.
And if Nataly is aware that it's her eyes that totally makes the videos they do (aside from the amazing editing)!
I guess it can be considered a cereal, just like porridge. In everyday speech however, one generally refers to porridge and muesli specifically when describing ones breakfast.
Very cool, dag.
*quality idea dag.
Awarding dag with one star point for this contribution to VideoSift - declared quality by eric3579.
Question #1 - Do they mind terribly if we just torrent their music?
For all of you who reside in the Bay Area, Pomplamoose will be playing at the Brainwash Cafe (1122 Folsom Street) in San Francisco on Nov. 13th. All ages, and it's FREE!
The lineup:
8pm Greek National Road
9pm Danielle Ate the Sandwich
10pm Pomplamoose
I'm trying to get one of my friends to go with. Fingers crossed.
Great idea, daggers. I like their music very much. That will be a great addition to the site.
This will be great! Thanks for taking the initiative on this, dag. I have a couple of questions as well:
1. What's their musical background, and where did they learn to play their instruments and sing? Do they come from musical families?
2. Is all that equipment theirs, and if so, how did they afford it? It looks pretty expensive. Did they buy most of it in one bunch or gather it up slowly over the years?
3. Their music is a lovely blend of many genres, but a major part of it seems to be rooted in *jazz. Which jazz artist has been most influential on their music?
4. Do they play any wind instruments? Or any other instruments that we haven't yet seen in a video? (Disregard the first part of this question if they actually do play a wind instrument in a video I haven't seen yet.)
5. How do they distribute their music? What are their thoughts on the future of music distribution?
I will appreciate it greatly if a couple of these questions could be worked into the interview.
Adding post to channels (Jazz) - requested by Ornthoron.

The cereal seems to be a running gag: http://www.videosift.com/video/September-Earth-Wind-Fire-cover
Oh, and I just realized I had one more question:
6. Are they familiar with Lasse Gjertsen? Is the video editing inspired by him? They seem to use some of the same techniques as in i.e. Amateur and Hyperactive.
Hip and talented-I share their enthusiasm for mixed-media performance, i.e. varied repertoire of covers n' assorted instrumentation-always made music like this m'sself-Loved their version of Fav-Things-Cool as hell Dag-
Having seen a few videos I'm a confirmed fan. I don't have any interesting questions though - maybe what music has inspired them and what they're listing to right now?
When will you be conducting the interview, and how will it be done?
Great initiative, dag. Love the idea!
I would like to know if the mole on her lip thats in the exact location of mine is the source of all her power? And by her I mean Natalie of course.

Asking them about art vs commerce, copyright, fair use, file sharing, bit torrent, etc. would be great.
Sorry to go all People magazine here, but I would like to know how they met, if they are just musical buddies or they are also a couple, if they have any pets they could have sing in any of their videos, have they ever been abducted by aliens... All that personal stuff.
Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)
We're doing it this Wednesday - over Skype. I'd love to do it in person, but alas. The only local web-celeb I might have a shot at interviewing is Yahtzee, who is a Brisbanite. ;-)
>> ^eric3579:
When will you be conducting the interview, and how will it be done?
- whats the favorite of the covers you've done so far?
- how are the live performances going so far? and how do you do it (just the two of you or with a band) & do you think you will do shows in europe some time?
- for jack: how to you groom your beard?
Ask her why she hasn't made babies with me yet.
