Tutorial: Make a Youtube Embed Play at a User Specified Time

This sift talk will show the sift, those who aren't geeks, how to edit a YouTube link or embed to make the resulting video play at a specific time. This is useful for referencing a specific part of a video for a comment, argument, or whatever. An example of this is in one of my comments on the video in the following link; http://videosift.com/video/Ron-Paul-Obama-Is-Not-a-Socialist

Making a link link this Carlin on Rights at 4:19.

Below is a link to one of George Carlin's last video posts, and I've already checked with the Frisbees on my roof they said it was OK to post this.

In the following link pay close attention to the t=4m19s; that is where the time is specified in a link. The you tube video in that link will start at 4 minutes, and 19 seconds. I have not tried 1h and 5 minutes, or seen what kind of errors that will produce, if any errors at all.

Embed Editing: Make an Embed Start at a Specific Time

Perhaps some Sifters want to make an embed start at a time of their specification? Here's how.

Pay close attention to the bold sections that look like this start=259 that tells the embed to start at 4 minutes and 19 seconds. As far as I know this only works with minutes, so all times need to be converted into minutes. I do believe that both youtube links need to have the start time in them. Which can be seen in the code below.

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hWiBt-pqp0E&hl=en_US&fs=1&start=259"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hWiBt-pqp0E&hl=en_US&fs=1&start=259" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

The end results.
