The Power of the Down Vote
After a bit of code wrangling, we've added the down vote to VideoSift. This feature is available to all registered members with a bronze star (10 published videos) or higher. The down vote, along with giving us another way to express our opinions, will also help with our housekeeping. Videos that have a -2 rating or less will be automatically deleted by SiftBot a few times a day. We've added details in the FAQ on this - enjoy. Leave a comment here if you have any technical or philosophical problems with this feature.

Sorry if you see a few spurious down votes by James and I on your vids. Had to test the system.

Also, if things look a bit wonky, delete your cache, or hold down the alt-key and refresh. We've updated the css as well.
dotdudeDoes this mean a video might have negative rating with enough down votes? Or does it cut off at zero?
dotdudeI did see the answer in the FAQ. I guess it is possible to have a video make it out of the que and later receive enough negative votes to then be thrown out?

That's right dotdude, at any time, if the video reaches -2 votes, it get's discarded.

No, it will only be taken off the front page if it gets to -2 votes. It doesn't go back in the queue or anything.
KrupoI heard lots of comments calling for a feature like this, sometimes half-jokingly. Very cool to see it implemented, well done!
fireflyI don't know...does this mean we actually lose votes we've tried so hard to accumulate? Doesn't seem fair. I mean, if you don't like a video, just don't vote for it.
If you want housekeeping help, either set shorter time in the queue, or require more votes for promotion.

Well, so far at least, I don't think the down vote has been abused. And by only allowing bronze star and above members to down vote, We're preventing just random down voting. I suggest we see how it plays out over the next couple of weeks. I hope it will be a tool for the good.
darksunthe problem that i had with the voting down still hasnt gone. whenever i vote down it just adds another vote. is this just me in particular?

darksuninternet explorer. let me get an example video, the one below. when you reply ill click down and then ill tell you when ive clicked down.

darksunAha, thats a first, its actually gone down now. I also noticed that the green lines surrounding the arrows have gone. Thanks James.
James Roeit might have been that your css had not updated prior to that, which i suppose could have been causing the problem.
