The New New VideoSift

I think that does it. We don't have a cheesy "beta" image on our header, but we're definitely beta. (Maybe forever), so please just let us know here when you find the inevitable bugs.

I won't go through and thank everyone again, I did that here, but I will say a general thanks to the whole community. You guys have made me a believer in the power of online communities. Many hands make light work. I think I'm turning into a cyber-communist.

Will there be a "bugs" blog? I found a link that goes to the old site, and I don't know if this is where I should post it....

If you click on the "Top 15 Members by Rank" on the right it takes you to the old site.

I want a shirt that says, "Sift happens..." hee hee hee

OOO! James and dag bobbleheads!!

New bug...

When you click on a user's name from the comments in FF, a page appears with "Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /usr/local/apache/htdocs/libs/utils.php on line 183"

swampgirl says...

Dag or James, when you right click on a member to open their profile in a separate window.. this comes up:

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /usr/local/apache/htdocs/libs/utils.php on line 183

sfjocko says...

i feel as though the house, having been lifted by the twister, finally fell with a jerk and a thud, we walk to the front door with toto, open it, and ... oooh, theres VideoSift2.0

James Roe says...

You may have not noticed in the past. Your current ranking is a chron job that gets run about once an hour. It would probably bring the site to it's knees if we tried to keep up with such things in real time.

James Roe says...

Yeah, but when you load your profile page it is doing a real time check. Where as the sidebar is based on a chron job that runs once an hour. If it hasn't updated by the morning we will take a closer look at it.

James Roe says...

Ant try hitting ctrl - It looks like your text is slightly larger than the mozilla default, which is why you are getting the problem. We are working on scaling the site to work with non standard font sizes, but it's not there yet.

Posting still needs some looking.

I was almost through the process of posting and when I got to the page that gives you possible dupes, I decided to edit my tags to include something of the other's tags.
After I edited and "submitted" the vid wasn't published in the queue...it was sort of in limbo. It had a comment box, but no voting buttons. I had to backpage back to the original posting form to edit and submit.

lucky760 says...

The problem (re: swampgirl) is that the video was not yet fully submitted when you click the 'edit this' link on your video. It's fixed now by removing the 'edit' link from an incomplete submission.

ant says...

On my office computer, I have the same problem.

James, did you use Mozilla v1.7.13 suite's Web browser? Not Firefox and SeaMonkey. It's no big deal since it doesn't break the site. It is just not centered.

Dignant_Pink says...

first let me say that i love the new site. way cool.

having said that, i am incredibly annoyed by the fact that the side panel (top fifteen fastest rising videos, etc.) is intruding into the actual video space. you have to enlarge it to see the whole thing, but at the cost of quality.

Please, dag or James, fix this problem.

Thanks for the feedback Dignant. Can I ask what screen resolution you're running at, and what browser you are using? Would you be able to send us, or link us to a screenshot?

daphne says...

My son's computer had the same issue as Dignant has...then I realized that he was still on 800 X 600 res. It's quite messy at 800 X 600. But going to a higher resolution fixed it.

Thanks SG, The bug team was Lucky760 James and myself. I think it's running pretty smoothly now, but it was touch and go for a while.

Our server load is a bit higher with all of the extra stuff, but we just upgraded (again) so I think our new beefy server will handle the load.

There are a few more things to add, one fairly significant new feature, and then I think we will be done for a while.
