Sponsored Posts

In our continual effort to keep the gas on here at VideoSift- we'll soon be launching a sponsored post program. We recognize that people really would like to promote their work on VideoSift- and we're providing an avenue for that.

We're making space for one paid video post on the front page which is subject to comments and votes- just like a standard post. The post will be clearly marked as sponsored. We will not censor the comments or votes on these posts. Of course, as this is a type of advertisement, charter members will not see the post on the front page- though they may see it through recent comments links or if the post manages to reach the top 15.

Thanks for your support on this. Lincoln failed 100 times before he found success. Likewise we'll keep mixing up methods to pay the bills until we find the one that ensures our viability. VideoSift is exactly like Abraham Lincoln.

Sounds like a great idea, dag -- in fact (and I may be in the minority on this one), I don't think you should make it hidden for charter members. Since it's still basically a part of the site (ie. it can be voted/commented on) it's definitely something I'd like to see. Maybe make it a choice for charter members to see it or not?

Either way, a *quality idea for sure.

If sponsored videos get to -3 votes, do they get discarded like any other post? If so, are the sponsors aware of this? Just curious. I sincerely hope they're not the lame commercials that we like to make fun of here. I know video hosts like YouTube and MetaCafe are already doing this, but unlike them the users here have the power to make their videos disappear through downvoting. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

^Okay, I understand that you're trying to make a little green. Still, it will look weird if we see posts, any posts, with more than -3 votes sitting on the front page. Hell, ANY post with less than zero total votes will look weird. And kinda bad, IMHO. We call this place *quality control. UNLESS there's money involved.

I dunno. This could be good; this could be bad; this could be nothing. I'm always hoping for the best because I love this place, so don't put me in the anti-change camp. Still, the proof is in the pudding. A limey expression. I miss alien_concept.

Will there be any restrictions? What about spam and/or other questionable videos? I know it's their money they're spending, but it might make the front page look a little seedy if the wrong videos are spotlighted.

Other than that, I think its a great idea and I hope people use it properly to show off some cool videos.

I look forward to seeing what kind of advertisers we attract with this.

Same here. I'm actually wondering if we'll (and hoping to) see if any actual Sifters would pay to self-link for a day.

@Stingray: As we mention on the submission page, all submissions are subject to review, and anything that is objectionable will not be approved.

Personally, I look forward to tearing apart the crappier videos posted by the more mindless advertisers. I welcome all the negative votes with anticipation. And if some of them are good, then cool, whatever.
