Is YouTube the best choice for music videos?

I personally don't think so. The sound is mono on Youtube and it's often of very poor quality. There are a lot of music videos being posted lately (don't know the ratio but it feels like it's half of all submitted videos) so maybe sifters should consider going for other sources when possible, like Dailymotion?

A while back I posted a news item here about Daily Motion cracking down on copyrighted material. I don't know how it will compare to YouTube's crackdown.

MySpace often has music videos, but they do get yanked too.

Sadly enough YouTube is still seems the best way to go. the crackdown on music videos is pretty wide spread but YouTube has enough submitters that they can usually recoup faster then other video sharing sources.

I don't know, I gotta almost say MySpace has begun to surpass YouTube in the last few months. There has been a pretty hard crackdown lately now that record labels like Universal Music Group have created YouTube accounts and have set up little video monopolies. This wouldn't be so bad except that then they often not only post videos of amazingly shitty quality, but they disable the embed in a lot of cases. MySpace is still relatively free territory, so I've been finding a lot of replacement codes for older posts there, as well as new material... oftentimes the picture and quality are better than anything previously posted on YouTube, which yeah grubert said, is often pretty bad.

I've been finding MySpace to be a better source for music than YouTube most of the time now. The quality generally seems to be better and they don't seem to die as frequently.

side point... the reason music videos are so popular on here is because nobody clicks them unless they are interested in the artist mentioned in the title, so therefore almost 100% of people who click a music video will vote for it, sometimes without even watching it, and it will probably get out of the queue if there are more than 10 fans of the artist on videosift.
in contrast if you post something that's supposed to be funny, 1000 people view it and 997 say it isn't funny, or not funny enough to upvote.

about this thread... fuck myspace, goodnight.

You know, as much as I hate to admit it, Yahoo's Music Video service is actually pretty damn good. Granted, it's a terrible streaming GUI, old videos get removed, none of it is user-submitted, etc, but... it's quality, (usually) pretty open bandwidth, and all of the NEWEST videos get posted. Some indie labels don't get much coverage, but even self-owned label artists such as nerdcore rapper MC Lars even got their stuff up.

Yahoo Music Videos may not be the best, but I think it's damn good.

ugh, i clicked reggae, got some RnB porn bullshit, clicked a hip hop thing and got an advert for a car, then after the ad it was a broken link in the video embed.
THAT is how you annoy MINK!
