IE6 blows the doors off IE8. Worst browser yet.
No love for IE7?
Not that I really use any of them except for work...
I installed Windows 7 x64 on friday and IE8 has already caused a complete hang of the system and periodically the browser freezes while trying to download a page, meaning I cant click another tab while I'm waiting, and I seem to have to wait a long time for pages. Time to reinstall firefox.
^IE8 is terribly unreliable. It crashes very often, but instead of it just crashing normally, it tries to fix and reset itself leading to a complete resource hog in the OS. I wish I could roll back to IE7. Was a much better browser.
I for one like Vista. I can never understand why so many people hate it. It's easy to use. I really don't mind clicking 'allow' - it's not that hard and maintains my computers security.
I've recently bought my first PC with Vista. Initially it seems nice enough but there are problems around the edges and this is with the service packs.
I use logmein alot and remote control is now flaky whereas with XP/2000 it was fine. There seems less control/features in choosing my desktop icons and windows explorer is a confusing mess that has to be rescued with an install of Filebox Extender.
Performance doesn't seem overly quick though I could disable aero I suppose. Other than that I'm grateful that Office 2000 works.
Fundamentally though, I see no one unifying feature that makes me think that my computing experience has been revolutionised or enormously improved in some way. From what I hear the same lack of ambition infects Windows 7 as well.
Good old Microsoft!
i put in my new motherboard, and now I have a problem where the first time i boot, everything disk related is horribly terribly slow, but after a reboot the speed is fine.

Can you try moving your HDD to a different SATA port on your mobo? If that doesn't work, or if it's not SATA, try looking up a newer BIOS firmware and flashing it.
I've had Vista ever since release and barring the time between release and SP1 I have had literally zero problems with Vista.

If you swapped your mobo without doing a clean install, then you really shouldn't be surprised. Windows doesn't handle this sort of change. It's still loading all the drivers and such for your previous board.
