The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack presented in its first hearing June 9 a series of video testimonials from insurrectionists who came to the Capitol that day, all saying they came to answer a call from former President Donald Trump.
“What made me want to come was the fact that I had supported Trump all that time. I did believe that the election was being stolen, and Trump asked us to come,” said Robert Schornack, who according to the committee was sentenced to 36 months of probation.
The hearing June 9 was the first of several planned by the Jan. 6 committee in the coming weeks. In the year since its creation, the committee has conducted more than 1,000 interviews, seeking critical information and documents from people witness to, or involved in, the violence that day.
