Today’s Jan 6 Hearing Summary And Possible Trump Charges

Jul 12, 2022 Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., gave a closing statement on July 12 as the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack presented its findings to the public. The focus of the hearing was on extremist far-right groups like the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers and the role they played in the Capitol insurrection.

Cheny listed the ways the committee has described parts of what they call former President Donald Trump’s “multi-part plan to overturn the 2020 election.” She said that the next hearing, to take place the week of July 18, will focus on how Trump did not intervene for several hours during Jan. 6.

Cheney also said that after the June 28 hearing, Trump tried to call a witness who has spoken to the committee but whose testimony has not yet been made public. The person didn’t answer the call and told their lawyer, who then alerted the committee.

“Let me say one more time: We will take any effort to influence witness testimony very seriously,” Cheney said.

In the year since its creation, the committee has conducted more than 1,000 interviews, seeking critical information and documents from people witness to, or involved in, the violence that day.
