The hookers of the district sing about their hard life trying to make the bills! A segment from Nyocker (District).
Nyócker is a Hungarian award-winning animated film from 2004.
http://imdb.com/title/tt0398237/ This award-winning animated Hungarian movie, made by a team of débutantes, is probably one of the coolest, rudest and most refreshing attempts at a adult oriented animation I have seen. Such movies is too rare, but fortunately have folks like Bill Plympton, Satoshi Kon and the Parker/Stone duo, recently been able to create ambitious movies touching serious and mature themes. The folks behind 'Nyócker!' aka 'The District' are definitely worthy to join that prominent gang, their movie got plenty of potential. First of there is the incredible animation techniques. It is close to 'South Park', though still quite different. Done with real photos of faces, sketchy drawn bodies, some CGI's and amazing colors. But definitely not for the youngest of the household! The plot is about some working-class kids of Budapest, who travel back in time to create rich oil-supplies for their part of the city, isn't that spectacular after all, but the way it is delivered is damn brilliant! The movie creates a hilarious universe of charming and varied characters. I can imagine the concept of 'Nyócker!' do good as a TV-show or something. There is also a Romeo & Juliet sub-plot, musical numbers with Hungarian hip-hop, and some of the nastiest, rudest and dirtiest satirical jokes and gags! A great lesson about the importance of knowing the difference of Budapest and Bucarest! Especially a lesson for Mr. Bush! Yep, the whole G8 gang appear! Some parts of 'Nyócker!' is very insider stuff, but didn't kept Me from being greatly entertained all the way. This is the second Hungarian movie I have seen. The first was the mind-blowing cool 'Kontroll'. So yeah, I think I am about to get hooked on recent Eastern European cinema.
