Gene Simmons - "I'm the Firestarter"

An amazing mix of awful and awesome. Gene Simmons of KISS does a slightly rock-ified cover of The Prodigy's hit, "Firestarter". The video is BLING-tastic, with all the elements of a typical rap braggart video with a little extra SoCal Latino Low-Rider spice. There's something precious in seeing Simmons, who is Israeli, mug for the camera decked out like an Hispanic Pimp stereotype, while singing a song about arson that was penned by a quiet British geek.

It's hard to tell just how tongue-in-cheek it is, but either way, the absurdity pushes the odometer right back over to that special sort of awesome.

Dr. Gonzo may have gone missing, but his spirit lives on. I keep expecting to see Raoul Duke lounging poolside in the video.
