English hedges are apparently a craft and art

I had no idea that a hedge was constructed this way---and then had a 40-60 year lifetime.

I started watching a clip and then I watched all the way to the end.

What's more fascinating to me is: this is the middle of WW-II when this is made. And the agricultural production of England must have been a critical factor--the German submarine campaign had just threatened to starve England during the Battle of the Atlantic---and yet--here we are. A plan to take care of the natural fences for the next 40 years--

A profoundly optimistic act.
