Drone Footage Of Syrian Base After Recent Tomahawk Strike

Russia's Ministry of Defense has released aerial footage of the aftermath of U.S. air strikes on a Syrian air base

A U.S. official told the Associated Press all but one of the 59 Tomahawk missiles struck their targets Thursday, hitting multiple aircraft and air shelters, and destroying the fuel area.

The Kremlin, however, said just 23 of 59 missiles reached the Shayrat air base, destroying six Syrian jets but leaving the runway intact. Infrared video captured by drones appears to show several jet fighters surrounded by fires.

The New York Post reports the video also appears to show some above-ground bunkers in western Syria that may have been damaged in the attacks.

President Donald Trump ordered the strikes, fired from two warships in the Mediterranean Sea, in retaliation for Tuesday's deadly chemical attack, which officials said used chlorine mixed with a nerve agent, possibly sarin.

At least 87 people, including 31 children, were killed in the latest incident from the country's six-year-long civil war that has left an estimated 400,000 dead.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Thursday there is "no doubt in our minds" that Syrian President Bashar Assad's government was behind the attack Tuesday that killed dozens of innocent people in rebel-held northern Idlib.

World leaders praised the U.S. missile response while Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iran, both Assad allies, condemned it as an "aggression against a sovereign state in violation of international law."

Trump said "peace and harmony will prevail" so long as the U.S. continues to stand for justice.
