Second Life
I'm just curious if anyone here is on or has experimented with Second life.
I created an account like four years ago but my system couldn't handle the graphics. I've recently bought a new system, and on a whim, tried to log on, and to my surprise my account was still there and still active.
Over the last week, I've spent time on there, configuring my character and dressing him and making him look cool. But like so many computer disciplines, the more you figure out, the more you realize you don't know.
First of all, I'm realizing that the character creation can be complicated and buggy - with no tutorials that actually explain anything.
Second, Second Life is most time-consuming thing I've ever played with on the internet. I think in order to play Second Life, You have to give up your First Life.
There only seems to be two things to do in Second Life. Create or interact.
Creating stuff, at first glance, seems to be very complicated (Minecraft seems much simpler)
And interacting seems like pulling teeth. Everyone is in private chat. I can stand in a room of 30-40 people and nothing is coming across in public chat. As well, trying to start a conversation in like pulling teeth and takes an hour just to get the conversation started - by then, it's time to log off.
I just don't see the relevancy of the place. I can see myself unplugging and moving on very soon as I have yet to see any reason to stay there. I may not be getting the full extent of Second Life. I just may not be the type of person that can strike up chat with people I know nothing about. Whatever it is, it's very frustrating. I think you may just need to be a specific type of person to live in this Second Life world.
I'd be curious to hear anyone else's experiences with SL or if anyone here currently frequents the worlds of Second Life.
