That would be murder. Just because someone has a gun in public, or is even threatening, doesn't mean you have the right to shoot them--people who undergo CCW training realize this as they re-iterate this point several times. There is a list of criteria that must be satisfied before you can even legally draw your weapon--at least in my state.
Well, regardless of what they told you in your class, I don't think you're correct. It's not that clear cut. Or maybe your teaching applies only to concealed weapons in public places, neither of which necessarily apply to this situation.
See http://law.jrank.org/pages/10128/Self-Defense.html
"The same values that underpin self-defense support the defense of property. Generally a person has greater latitude in using physical force in the defense of her dwelling than in the defense of other property. In most jurisdictions deadly force is justified if a person unlawfully enters onto property and the property owner reasonably believes that the trespasser is about to commit a felony or do harm to a person on the premises."
I think if this driving range owner saw a guy with a shotgun trespass into and then sneak through his property he could try to argue that the trespasser was "about to commit a felony or do harm to a person on the premises". You seem absolutely incorrect that "threatening" isn't enough. "Threatening" clearly can be enough for a reasonable self-defense argument.
Also, from this case http://www.tdn.com/articles/2008/07/04/area_news/doc486d3008b3d11480365604.txt the district attorney is quoted as saying "... the shooter is allowed to act on appearances in defending themselves or another and a mistaken belief in the appearance of danger is immaterial" when explaining why they weren't prosecuting a self-defense/murder case.
I'm not saying someone is likely to get off completely (although it's possible), but it's certainly strong mitigating factors that a prosecutor, judge, and jury will consider carefully.
Also, I'm sure in this situation they made previous arrangements with the driving range and quite possibly the local police.
Ahmadinejad on the History of Israel and Threats of Force
"The Jewish Question Since World War Two" is the title of an article i've read that I would encourage all who are interested in this question to read.
You can find it here: www.workersliberty.org/node/8914
p.s.: this is not the exact translation of the text i've been reading for those who speak french you can find the article here http://www.ernestmandel.org/fr/ecrits/txt/1947/projet_de_theses_sur_la_question_juive.htm

Interestingly enough, a former attorney for Mansanto is now a deputy director for the FDA. Here is a letter attempting to invalidate the article put out in SCIENCE by Monsanto.

The evolution of the cell phone
kulpims, I've always had the exact opposite problem. I wanted MP3 player, Calendar, Notes, photo slideshow and so forth in my phone and until the iphone had never found any of that. Granted, the iphone has it's shortcomings too, but overall it has most of the features I was looking for.
RedSky, I'm one of those people who wanted everything integrated. Yes, I'm still waiting for a decent camera phone, but if need be, I have something on my phone. I don't like carrying around an MP3 player, a camera, a notepad, a dayrunner, a map, and so forth when I can have everything fit in one pocket. I'm extremely minimalistic and prefer to carry nothing extra if I have to.
But, my parents on the other hand, can barely figure out how to call people let alone use the built-in MP3 player, txt msg'ing, GPS navigation and everything else their FREE phone does. So I can agree with everyone there, that some people just don't use their tools to their fullest capacities, just like people who buy brand new computers when a outdated Windows 98 machine with a 766mhz processor is more than they'll ever need. Heck, my aunt is still using a Gateway with a 1.33mhz and 256mb RAM. It's her first computer, and she's never upgraded, but then again, she's never really used it.

Why Sometimes it takes a long time for a Sift page to load (Blog Entry by dag)
It could be that people go to videosift first thing after the end of whatever TV show they were watching that ended on the hour. What does the net traffic graph look like?
Putting a 15 second cooldown between searches from the same IP is a good idea regardless. Someone could easily DDoS by spamming search queries. And make sure you disallow the search page in your robots.txt.
Texting Makes Me Soooo Horny!
Ha, I love it. I've seen the late night flirt txt ads and wondered who the hell does it. I mean, for starters it's like $1 or more a txt, and then on top of that it could be anything on the end of that phone, not even someone who sounds like a hot woman.
Amazing that people use it.

Welcome to VideoSift 3.0 (Sift Talk Post)
Hey guys,
I know it's been sort of slow. We think that we have traced the problem down to some issues with our robots.txt file which controls how bots interact with the website. Basically all of the major search engines flipped out over not being able to index the site over night and we are seeing a request every second or so from several ips. This traffic is largely targeted at some pages that are no longer at their original urls. We are working on reducing the impact that this is having on the server.
Windows Vista did not steal ideas from Mac OS X!
I'm with you Dag....and as a fanboy:
@arekin - you're not seriously comparing windows search to spotlight are you?
@xxovercastxx - you may find the original widgets interesting
I know they both take ideas from each other... though years of experience has taught me that Apple's execution is just plain better
