Unbelieveable Super Power: Estimating the Length of Celery

INCEPTION - 10 more days! (Blog Entry by Sarzy)

enoch says...

i find when my expectation reaches limits that no normal human being could ever equal,i am always disapointed.
but nolan has a knack for telling stories with subtlety, even when dealing with complicated plotlines.
for his sake i hope he delivers on this movie because sarzy may just become the shooter on the grassy gnoll if nolan drops the ball.

IT Crowd is Back! (British Talk Post)

Deano says...

>> ^deputydog:

For the record, I think Graham Linehan is a veritable comedic genius. Big Train is one of the greatest sketch shows ever created, and Father Ted one of the best sitcoms. Most of my friends adore IT Crowd too, and we have very similar taste when it comes to comedy. Also, I think Richard Ayoade is hilarious, particularly in Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. Really, all signs point to me loving the programme; but I don't.
I will, however, attempt to watch it again.

He co-wrote Father Ted and had better actors to work with. I'm not a fan of Richard Ayoade - he seems to try bloody hard in this but can't help feeling someone else could play Moss with far less effort and get a lot more out of the role.

The other thing about the acting quality - the supporting actors they get just seem really average. Again, because I love mentioning it, Seinfeld always had a knack of casting amazing support who gave stormingly funny performances and many of them became hugely memorable. I've never seen a sitcom match this. Here it's like the three main characters are supposed to carry it all off on their own - it's too big a burden IMO.

Portal 2: E3 teaser trailer

I figured that mentioning I am Portal clueless would be rather naive, but it stems from the fact that I am just a lousy puzzle game player. The best accomplishment I can list in the genre is not sucking at Tetris and... thats about it.
I'm not knocking Portal. Hell, its sitting down next to my 360 as part of the Orange Box and wholly unused. I simply have a knack towards other stuff like racing games or RPGs.

It's not so difficult that you're likely to be frustrated. It's also one of the funniest games I've ever played. The comedy alone is worth the play-through.

No, seriously. SERIOUSLY. Go play portal. There's no point in not playing it, you're starving yourself of one of the best gaming experiences ever, and i'm pretty sure no one would argue too much about that comment.

Michael Cera kicks some ass

mentality says...

>> ^shuac:

Oh goodie. Another I'm-just-a-regular-guy superhero movie based on coloring books. Someone pinch me.

The comic books are actually pretty good. It's really about friendship, love, loss, and growing up. Brian Lee O'Malley (the comics' creator) has a knack for writing dialogue, and creating well characterized personalities and meaningful relationships. The fights are really a framing device that allows for the relationship between the two main character to evolve. The surreal videogame/superhero inspired sequences help give the series its quirky lighthearted feel.

Of course a 2 min trailer cannot convey the depth that really makes the comics special. I'm actually quite skeptical that Edgar Wright and Michael Cera can do the series justice, but this video is a good sign.

Choggie kicked off the Sift again? (Wtf Talk Post)

gwiz665 says...

I blame the ills of choggie on choggie. Not the ills of the site. This was inevitable with his attitude and his tone. He was a troll with a cloak and for some reason people treat him like the fucking savior. He said he he was "waking people up" by calling them all idiots and spouting obscenities at them. Pfft, I grew tired of that quickly and ignored. Too much ego, too much self-righteousness. And I don't want to say much about his attitude to women (mostly because I do some of the same things) but if you think I was bad, he's worse.

I think the sift will be better for his ban in the end.

@enoch "go to posts two years ago.go ahead..i'll wait.
now..
go check the current top videos on this site.
see anything? notice anything?
it is becoming one big ball of sameness.
as if a giant vanilla cookie cutter was punching out the exact same material.
those people didnt leave because of choggie!
they left because this place started looking like a cheap version of the stepford wives."

People revere obscurity, but it's a hollow praise when they don't vote that way. We have a silent majority that wants what's at the top of the sift right now - who are you, or anyone of the taste-judges who have left,
to say they are wrong in their opinions and tastes?

I was there 2 years ago, it was the same. The people who have quit are the drama queens, the ego maniacs, the people who put their taste above everyone else's. I don't miss them. The rose-tinted glasses of yesteryear colors a lot, but in actuality there was very little difference between then and now.

New egos will rise, new originality will blossom. It's only natural.

If my memory serves, certain prominent members tried to make a video cult site devoted to eclectic and obscure tastes. it's not around anymore, and I didn't expect it to either, because they actively discouraged popularity and that's a recipe for failure.

"because here is the cold hard truth kids.
this place was once a vibrant mecca for the most unique, obscure, challenging and original sites to visit.
populated by interesting people with interesting ideas and to watch the disagreements fly put a smile on my face that lasted for HOURS.
now it is slowly becoming an exercise in banality..
un-interesting and un-original.
so clap your hands together for that kids!
you just succeeded in killing originality!
the drama is even boring!
and that my friends..is the fucking cold hard truth..and you helped usher it in."

Rose tinted glasses again. This was always a liberal, atheist site with a few outliers with different opinions. There are still very interesting discussions and interesting disagreements, but they are stifled with dramaah which someone like choggie was good at making. He had a knack for walking in on a thread and basically killing any hope of a meaningful discussion. I feel just fine that he got himself ousted. I thought it would take less than 6 months, but it was a nice try to give him a second chance - worth a shot, but, for me anyway, it's over now.

Originality is an antithesis to popularity, usually, and the site is based on popularity. This is not a new discussion, it's always been like this.

You just have to look closer for originality. Compare with youtube, you can't find quality there without drowning in a sea of shit - I prefer the sift any day.

My New Year kicked off with one hell of a lot of firecrackers and some good old fashioned drunken debauchery, so I can't complain too much.. I'm struggling to get back into the swing of things at work and it's pretty crazy to think that my time in Denmark is already coming to a close pretty soon. Time sure has a knack for going by way too fast when you're enjoying yourself. 2010 is supposedly the Year of the Inuit in Canada. I haven't seen much evidence to show that this will actually mean anything, but I'm trying to be optimistic!

Thanks, Jesse, it's been good so far. It's been a mix of arduous toil and reckless creative and amorous pursuit. I've reestablished NefFlix's faith in my finances and am padding out my queue with JesseoftheNorth fare. So far I've added 101 Reykjavik but need to go back and find some of the others you've posted. Thanks for the tips!
How's the Scandinavian New Year treating you?

Another Great Poem by Enoch

enoch says...

i was worried about this one.
while my cadence has a charles brukowski rhythm,my themes tend to break into parts.
julie has a knack for pulling images out of my words better than me.
the song is by rockettothesky.
a norwegian folk singer.
i actually was daydreaming playing this song and started writing.
thats what came out..no revisions.
though it seems my spelling is something to be desired.
all in all i am very pleased at julies work.
poor thing, she fretted over this for over a week.
i think she nailed it though.
not too sure about putting my back tattoo picture in there.
i understand her reasons,but i find it a bit self-serving.
thanks for posting this rasch,
i always have mixed feelings when i see my work displayed.
one of elation and of embarrassment.
it is an...odd..sensation.
i hope you all enjoy it though.it was a good collaboration.

MSNBC Host: "Socialist" is Becoming Code Word For The N-Word

gtjwkq says...

^ Mr. Megarchist, stop looking at Europe and look at Asia, there are currently many countries there enjoying a lot more economic freedom than we do right now, and their prosperity can be directly linked to how unregulated their markets are, unless you're using special distorted vision liberal glasses and attributing all that economic growth to their spiffy governments.

Socialism does not mean evil. It's just that the theory is a convoluted mess of lies, and, as a social system, it's incredibly oppressive towards the inconvenient human nature of individuals. That's not evil at all.

Libertarians are much more about liberty than liberals, they win hands down, why go there? No one's got a knack for reducing a person's liberty more than the government. Libertarians want less govt and liberals want more of it. Do the math.

You're not "letting" people die when it's not your duty to take care of their health in the first place. That's like saying people are keeping me from being a millionaire because they won't give me a miserable dollar.

Before you rush to judge me callous, it's a lot worse to see govt stealing the life out of millions of productive taxpayers (remember, hard-earned money requires work and time out of people's lives) through taxes to support a wasteful healthcare system. Why isn't your heart bleeding out for *them*?

It's more resource-efficient to let people help each other out voluntarily and compete than letting govt step in and do it. Those led to believe otherwise are suckers who are not seeing those who rake in the most benefits out of socialized healthcare: government and those in bed with it.

Cool, just came up with a new name for liberals: Suckers.

I'm on fire.
