750th Episode Opening Credits | Couch Gag | The Simpsons

newtboy jokingly says...

Or they could have left out Hans Moleman because something bad happened to him….like it always does.

I think it would have been hilarious to sneak Akbar and Jeff, or Bongo in there somewhere.
(I’ve been a Groening fan since the “Life In Hell” series)

I haven't gone through looking, but it would be great if they left out Grimey, just to annoy his fictional corpse.

edit: aaaw, here's there beside Mindy 25 seconds in. Could they have left out Gill so he doesn't get appearance fees?

What attracted Sigourney Weaver to the character of Ripley

newtboy says...

Absolutely the animated series was far superior, and the movie somewhat bland…but the character was still a bad ass action heroine.
Wasn’t it on MTV’s liquid tv first? I remember having to stay up until 1am or later to watch it back before DVRs, even before most people had VCRs.

Edit: not that I disagree about Furiosa.

Furiosa got the advantage because I'd rank Mad Max Fury Road much higher than Æon Flux The Movie. Even though I like Æon more than most critics, that movie's not distinct (dystopian?) enough.

But I'm biased as I saw the original animated series first and it was objectively far superior - very arthouse experimental in its day for an American production. Æon is the movie is just the stock ass-kicking comic heroine in the DC/Marvel vein. Æon in the animated series & the latter comics is something... far more interesting.

What about Aeon Flux?

PopCorners Breaking Bad Super Bowl Commercial--Breaking Good

cloudballoon says...

Worth a chuckle (for the nostalgia of a great series). A little late to the game though. I mean, even Better Call Saul ended. Getting Saul to hustle PopCorners like he did burner phones is more timely than this ad script? Probably more creatively challenging than this though.

Undaming The Klamath : An Arial Perspective

newtboy says...

Due to begin this summer with Copco lake, and completed by 2024 with Iron Gate Dam removal as the last in the series.
Time will tell…it’s been scheduled for removal before only to be delayed for years.

Understanding Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond"

noims says...

This is wonderful. But. It's more of a eulogy for Pink Floyd than a critique or analysis of the song.

I love it. But it's the weakest in a fantastic series.

But. This and its predecessors have definitely convinced me that I want a subscription to Nebula for Christmas. A thank for a job well done. My attention is limited, but I can see myself spending a bit less time here on the sift than I have, just because the sift has been so good.

Let's see. I'm not leaving you all. At all. Let's see.

RetroAhoy: X-COM

cloudballoon says...

X-COM & its sequels are THE strategy PC series I played & replayed the most ever, on both PC & Android on my tablet.

No other copycats I played like Jagged Alliance came close to my love of X-COM.

I always picked my team members that's high on Psych att/def. I prefer mind control the aliens to recon & go on suicide missions than using firepower.

Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal

cloudballoon says...

Where did you hear it's ending? As hard as it is to imagine a S3 watching S2's finale, it's not officially cancelled (but nor renewed).

Even if so, I'm not sad. I don't mind any good series ending of its own terms, when it reached a story arc's natural conclusion. And S2's finale certainly felt like a Tartakovsky story's endpoint.

An incredible series, even better than Samurai Jack. Looking forward to new (ad)ventures from Taratkovsky, his storytelling chops is insane.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves | Official Trailer

cloudballoon says...

So dragons don't breathe fire but rather ... hot coals (or black dragon phlegm)? OK...

I didn't grow up on tabletop DnD, but rather on Wizardry, Eye of the Beholder, Ultima and later the BG/IWD/NWN series etc. on the PC ... this doesn't feel like any of those DnD PC games. Now now, I know a tabletop DnD game can feel vastly different depending on the DM and the players, it CAN be as silly as anything, please don't boooo me.

I mean, if I'm more charitable-minded I'd call this is more Discworld and The Bard's Tale than typical DnD.

But really, this, this feels like a lazy MCU formula movie put in a fantasy setting and call it DnD.
