I think it's probably pretty hard to be as accurate as she is. You can try it out with a rubber band anchored at one end and the other in your hand and stretch it to increase and decrease tension while strumming it in the same way and see how many notes you get dead on when you try to play a song. Of course, shaking it to get vibrato kind of helps put you in the range of the note so you can make small adjustments without being too obvious. But still, she's impressively accurate, and this clearly sounds way better than your rubber band will.

The fact of the matter is: The spring to weight ratio of a small rubber band is a lot bigger than that of it's huge cousin there. Despite if they got it tighter or not, you could never approach the same ratio. Also you have the added problem of increased air drag, etc.

A translated version of this Japanese show used to be on Spike TV under the name "Hey! Spring of Trivia". I loved that show. They took 6 pieces of proven trivia per show from viewers and demonstrated them, and once a show they would take a question from a viewer like "how far could you shoot a giant rubber band?" and test it Mythbusters-style.

How to Open a Jar

This is so F&@#&^ awesome. Oh that I could be in the audience to lend my hearty applause to this exhibition of talent. She had me at the first jar and by jar number 3 I tell you I am still riding high on the adrenaline rush. YES rachel YES bang it hard baby and lets all watch it gently screw off. I heard she finished this by telling every audience member to look under the seat and she GAVE them each a Boskovitch Farms rubber band.
