Jason Voorhees preparing for Friday, the 13th.

noims says...

Bear in mind that you can't really compare it to the next generation like Nightmare on Elm St, Poltergeist etc. since they're already moving away from the straight-up slasher - more complex plots, adding mainstream elements like humour, and far bigger budgets.

The comparison to Halloween is reasonable since it really was a Halloween wannabe, but it's a bit like saying you're not as smart as Einstein.

Now, if you really want to diss the film, compare it to Evil Dead which came out only a year later on a smaller budget.

I finally watched it last night. It wasn't good as Halloween, Nightmare on Elm St., etc.

Has Woke Culture Has Gone Too Far

newtboy says...

Dishonest drivel by ridiculous ignorami who talk like snobby arrogant 12 year olds with a chip on their shoulders.

Really….he claims indoor plumbing is a major climate change driver, or a symbol of “wokeness”? Wtf is he talking about? More proof that he’s simply rambling nonsense to a crowd or braying morons in suits applauding every insult of the left, not making any valid points.

If enough people press that button to do everything to save their child at all costs without a thought to consequences, every child in the next generation has 5 times the likelihood of not surviving his first year, button or no, and the next 10 times the death rate, and the next 25times….and if everyone pushes that button, it guarantees a near 100% infant death rate this century. There are many ways to improve infant mortality rates without adding to greenhouse emissions….the best being STOP HAVING CHILDREN YOU CANNOT SUPPORT or FEED.

Undeveloped India is going to largely dissolve before they advance technologically. Over 2/3 of the water in that region comes from glaciers….glaciers in many cases expected to be gone completely by 2030. That’s almost 2 billion people suddenly with no water source. There is no technological way to replace that amount of water, never mind the money and energy. Therefore the India and China emission issues he claims are upcoming will likely largely solve themselves as they will be the spearhead of the first major wave of our extinction.

BTW, the comatose (the un-woke) admitted they actually want to ban women in red states from traveling legally because they could get in a car and drive/move to a state where abortion is legal….and they know their HUGELY unpopular plan to make an anti abortion federal law (funny it’s no longer a states rights thing) is a non starter.
So much for freedom.
They also are moving to ban contraception, sodomy, homosexuality, literally any sex that doesn’t lead to unwanted children except heterosexual sex with pre-pubescent girls….they’re in favor of THAT, and have written multiple bills attempting to legalizing it.

Valedictorian Gives Unapproved Speech on Abortion Rights

luxintenebris says...

* a h e m *

wisdom can be displayed at any age.

and age is a teacher...but not all pay attention.

there's a reason the phrases "from the mouth of babes" and "no fool like an old fool" will be passed on to the next generations. it is universally true.

even @18 or 19...or even matt gaetz girlfriend's age, 17...the demonstrative truth is SHE IS A VALEDICTORIAN and she has the sapience (you can look it up) to understand what she is condemning.*

am STILL unconfident that you believe what you're saying (it'd be an insult to both of us). have to be a wag of a satrist. no one is so subtly self-owning w/o some thread of chicanery showing.

just the juxtaposing of "well read" and "idiot" in the same sentence is A SCREAM!! man! that's good!

it's a Carlin skit. "jumbo shrimp"

makes me smile.

[if you're using newt as an example of a bad example, it's a bad example of a bad example. the low-hanging fruit here would be, it's unlikely bk33/tt ever had to worry about any unwanted pregnancy other than their own. doubt they've ever even stroked a petting zoo beaver.

* to be fair; its' Republican fly fodder. hardly 'gold star' level.

She is 18 or 19.

Still dumb as adults go.

Newt your the dumb one also. To give a child such credence and pretending she is adult enough is foolish.

She is smart enough to say NO, This might fuck up my future.

Why we need a new education system

transmorpher says...

Indeed, criticism is easy.

I'm personally a huge fan of the Khan Academy's method. That and also paying the teachers a massive salary.

That will of course never happen, because the rich people in charge are stupid, and they also want the general public to be stupid so that they can easily gain their votes.

Anyway, seems like the next generation of workers will all be robots, so perhaps we should all be learning how to run for our lives. ;-)

noims said:

While I agree with everything he says, he's pointing out a lot of problems without giving solutions.

To improve a system you need to introduce a better method, and ideally a way to transition to it; it's not enough to point out problems with the current one. I'm not saying it's not valuable to point out problems, I'm just saying it's not enough.

Why Tesla is building city-sized batteries

Spacedog79 says...

To do this on anything like the scale we'd need would be a monumental task and you'd have to replace all of it every 10 years. Next generation nuclear is the only way we can produce enough clean and reliable power to run civilised society.

Denzel Washington speaks out: Where are the Fathers

bobknight33 says...

Blinded by truth and you own ignorance.

Every generation is to try to make their next generation better. Every generation takes a step forward.

So Every color in America strides for this. But only 1 seem not to get ahead. Go figure. Last 50 years there have been great strides for the Blacks that are being depressed by Democrats. Once they figure that out then freedom will be obtained.

post-depression America FDR American Housing ACT.. Democrat policy that lent money to whites but not blacks. Yea Democrat party is the friend to the black. NOT.

Civil Rights ACT of 58 and 64. Zero Democrat support but push through to the Democrat POTUS and forces to pass it.

Jinx said:

Wow Bob. Sounds like your family had it much worse than them black folks!

Not everybody reaped the benefits of post-depression America buddy, and it wasn't for lack of trying. Not that I want to rob you of you and your family's accomplishments because I'm sure they worked hard for their lot, it's just that the sweat of your GGrandfather's brow probably earned more, drop for drop, than those of darker complexion. Slavery (ignoring the fact it still exists in every country today) might be old news, but segregation (and worse) is within living memory. If you don't think that matters then I'm sorry, but you're nuts. You seem to accept that each generation tries to build upon the last, that by increments your family have dragged themselves up...but imagine now if your ancestors were prevented from building anything, that their increment was robbed for generation after generation. Can you honestly say you'd be where you are today?

The Fable of the Dragon-Tyrant | CGP Grey

ChaosEngine says...

*quality stuff from Grey as usual.

I’m starting to think that significantly extending human life span might be the only way we actually grow up as a species and stop thinking so short term. Problems like climate change, overpopulation and automation will be things that we actually have to deal with, instead of just letting the next generation worry about it.

Why can’t i stop dreaming about waffles

FlowersInHisHair says...

The next generation is growing up with their lives already documented and shared online, without their consent. They will find our reactions to the Cambridge Analytica scandal and to Snowden, and perhaps even the very notion of personal privacy itself, to be absolutely baffling.
